OT:Cap Effect Question

I think it's plausible that the Habs may place Ninimaa on waivers when Cube is back(which is supposed to be tonight). Given Ninny's 2.5 mill salary...if he clears waivers does his salary come off the Habs book or do we still carry it regardless?? :dunno:

Thanks

The way I understand it is:

If he clears and goes to AHL or someone picks him up the first time he's on waivers, unpaid salary is off the cap (and goes to team picking him up if that happens).

If he gets picked up 2nd time he's on waivers (i.e. call-up), 1/2 unpaid salary goes to the Habs cap, 1/2 to the cap of the team picking him up.

Correct!

(But it will shock me if Gainey waives Niinimaa. Go ahead, Bob - shock me! ;) )

Agreed, otherwise why would have sent Kostitsyn down? Gainey and Carbonneau really seem sold on Murray and/or Downey playing. Dandenault seems to be playing 4th line shifts though, which is awesome.
