Habs records that may be broken this season

Interesting facts about our Habs courtesy of NHL.com

SLAP HAPPY SHELDON: Sheldon Souray's 10 power-play goals this season leaves him one shy of the Canadiens record of 11 by a defenceman in a season. Three guys have pulled off the feat – Guy Lapointe (1974-75), Mathieu Schneider (1993-94) and Patrice Brisebois (2000-01). For the record, Souray's only eight goals shy of the NHL record.

The current record of 18 is shared by Denis Potvin and Adrian Aucoin. Potvin did it in 1975-1976 with the New York Islanders. Aucoin matched it 1998-1999 with the Vancouver Canucks.

TWO FOR THE MONEY:One more multiple-goal game on the up-coming road trip will give Saku Koivu five multiple-goal games this month, tying him with the following players who established the record: Steve Shutt (November, 1976), Guy Lafleur (November, 1974), Jean Béliveau (March, 1959) and Maurice Richard (February, 1944) . . .

SHORT STUFF: Michael Ryder scored a short-handed goal in Boston on Saturday. The club has 11 on the season and that's just four shy of the club record. The team record of 15 was established in 1995-1996.

Nice for Souray, Koivu and the team.

Never knew of these records that were close to beating. Nice job and hopefully we can break a few of them.

Um if Huet finishes with a save % higher then 0.931..

That would be the highest ever for a habs goalie.

Would that be in the modern era, or all time?

Do you guys think the Ducks can beat the all time points records in a single season ?

(132pts 77-78 Habs )

They could, but only because of the new points system which helps them a LOT. Under the old system (the one they should go back to), they would have pretty much no chance of beating it.

That being said, I doubt they'll beat that record.

Delat 12-27-2006 09:44 AM

I don't think they'll beat it, they're strong but not enough.

I dunno, but any team that beats that record will have been soooooooo advantaged... with those 1pts OT losses and 1pts SO losses.

the habs of 95-96 made a new record of something? what the heck ?

That season the Habs had 12 ties. Given their winning percentage I'm guessing they would have had an additional 10 pts or so under the current point format.

Maybe, but no team will ever have less than 8 losses in a single season..... Its the most incredible record the Habs have IMO

baldrick 12-28-2006 11:17 AM

Kudos to everyone in the Habs' organization that we can talk about matching or breaking GOOD records. :yo:

Was Souray's empty-netter last night our 12th of the year?

Don't think there have been reliable stats kept in this area for much more than the past 20 or so years. Guess it would be an all-time mark but the term doesn't mean a whole lot in the context of a century of play.
