Kane or Gagner

Just wondering who you guys think will go higher by draft time (and in what position).

Also what are the ups and downs of each player.

(sorry if this has been done before but I'm curious).

:dunno:

Kane is an exceptionally skilled hockey player who is very creative. The big knock is size, and while he is tiny, seems to mix it up a fair amount. He reminds me of Brian Gionta a bit.

Possibly a Martin St. Louis type? Being strong on his skates and such?

Exactly. I can't emphasize how skilled Kane is with the puck. Has the puck on a string.

SaveHextall 12-27-2006 11:30 AM

Behind Okposo, I think Kane was USA's best and most dangerous player in the Germany game.

Where do you think he could be ranked at years end? I always figured it was his size that was keeping him out of the top 10..

SaveHextall 12-27-2006 11:31 AM

No -barring something crazy, he will go Top 10. I'd say right now his stock is rising, but it was only one game. Maybe between 4-7.

Patrick Kane reminds me of Daniel Brier. Especially with his amazing stickhandling. When all is said and done Kane will go in top 15. I hope my Leafs grab him! :)

That's what I'm hoping for.

I'd say Kane played better than Okposo did. Okposo tried to do too much by himself and didn't use his linemates as well as Kane did.

Personally, I'd pick Kane over Gagner as he seems to be developping a better all-around game. Gagner *should* become a good sniper though.

nomorekids 12-27-2006 12:09 PM

the tsn analysts feel that after this tournament, kane will be considered a concensus top five pick.

Not only do I agree, but i'll even say that if Kane plays all games like he played the one against Germany, he'll be top three on many lists.

X-SHARKIE 12-27-2006 12:30 PM

A few scouts at McKeens have been saying Kane over Gagner all year long - he's currently 4th on the rankings ahead of Gagner.

Kane looked special yesterday - his hands are amazing - he was strong on his skates and his offensive imagination is off the charts. Ales Hemsky like skill.

turnbuckle* 12-27-2006 12:37 PM

Perhaps if TSN hadn't been using ISS rankings as their criterion they'd have already known he was considered a top five pick.

KBstyle 12-27-2006 01:11 PM

What did Okposo to be the best player. He did some pretty move but never finish. I think he stickhandle too much. Kane was the best on the ice. Okposo look good but like i said he wasn't often dangerous for the goalie. Mueller look good, i think he pass the puck very well.

Kane will be draft higher then Gagner. Nut who knows :dunno:

orangeandblack 12-27-2006 03:23 PM

kane has been one of the usa's top players, gagner has been invisible in this years wjc's. seeing them play head to head in this tourney, i think kane has unquestionably more skills. gagner also looks smaller then 190.

Dave D 12-27-2006 03:31 PM

I also think Kane is much further ahead than Gagner at this stage in their development. I also think Kane's size is an advantage from a drafting perspective because he has so much room to grow physically. At 5'10" 185lbs he is going to be unreal.

I think Kane is a top 3 pick right now. I think he will be the best NHLer out of both Canada and US WJC teams.

CH Wizard 12-27-2006 04:00 PM

Kane all the way. He has much more strenght then his junior teammate. He's also smaller but he does have some wheels and he has really amazing hands. The puck flies on his own (kinda an illusion) when it's on his stick, that's how amazing he is with the puck. He also has a good shot but he's gonna need it to use it more on pp, he was just trying to make the perfect play vs Canada. I see, he's easily a top 5 talent in his draft and I'd pick him ahead of Gagner.

Kane

Form and Substance 12-27-2006 04:48 PM

Jesus that was fast. I swear to god a month ago it would have been Gagner in a landslide.

realgoodleafs 12-27-2006 05:07 PM

I wouldn't say Kane is better than Gagner just because of their play in the world juniors. Kane is in a role where he is expected to be that offensive go to guy. Gagner is on the Canadian team which plays very defensive hockey, so he is in a completely different system than he is used to in London. Just look at Bryan Little, he isnt lighting up the scoreboard either. Kane looks amazing no doubt, but im not sure i would pick him over gagner right now.

I agree. Kane is extremely skilled. Gets into good shooting areas by using his stick handling. Great passer. Great skater. Top 3 pick for sure by the end of the year.

thomasincanada 12-27-2006 07:32 PM

A couple of things to point out to folks here that might not know - Kane is almost a year older than Gagner. That makes a pretty big difference.

Here in London, Kane is definately the more flashy player with stronger offensive skills and great one on one skills. However, Gagner makes smarter plays, IMO, than Kane - I feel Pat tries to do it all himself too much while Sam is usually looking for open man.

Right now Kane is a slightly safer bet but if Gagner improves in the next year the way he has in the last - watch out.

A lot of people making their assumptions based on 2 WJC games, it would seem.

Happens all the time here.Bad time to ask the question but you just knew it would come up.You have a game against Germany where Kane plays great against an inferior team while gagner struggles in his first outing against a real good team.Maguire gushes about Kane,etc,etc,etc..In their 2nd games (both against a good team) both players play about even and don't really distinguish themselves though on average i'd say Kane was still more dangerous. Not hard to tell who everyone is going to prefer around here today, this minute, this thread.

But if gagner overtakes the guy in the ohl scoring race in the next month or so it'll switch the other way around.

That is.........until Kane overtakes Gagner in the scoring race the next week.
