FYI: Bednar was released by FLA
While DT, I think, shortchanged himself on the Yushkevich trade to Philly a few days before the deadline last season, you can easily rationalize Lilja and Bednar for the 4th and 7th rounders they got for Yushkevich respectively.
Assuming you think Bednar was equal to the 7th rounder, I'd say DT still got a decent return on those guys, seeing as where FLA couldn't even get a 7th from anyone in a trade for this slug and had to give him his unconditional release.
What a waste of a decent talent.
Well that's what happens when a player refuses to play in traffic.
You know, I still think that the Cechmanek trade was some sort of payback for helping out Clarke with the Yushkevich trade. I think that DT could have gotten more than a 4th on the open market(and vice versa for Cechmanek) but did Clarke a favor.
At the time, I don't think that Clarke had any intention of trading Cech, but I think that there would have been some other consideration given had Cechmanek not become an problem. Now as far as what, I have no idea. It could have been something as little as a switch of picks or permission to speak with a future before he officially hit free agent status ..ala Roenick in Phoenix.
Alright I'm done with my conspiracy theories for the night :p
