Did anyone else catch this?

This is the first I am hearing of it...

Though the dust-up wasn't caught on camera, multiple sources told tsn.ca that Tampa Bay Lightning coach John Tortorella and forward Vaclav Prospal had a heated exchange during Tuesday's loss to Montreal.

Haven't heard anything at all.

I didn't. But I suspect that this was blown all out of proportion for the sole purpose of rumormongering. Having said that, I've been a fan of Vinny20 since before dirt was invented, so my own opinion is therefore suspect.

I reported the exchange in my Islanders blog yesterday:

Scroll down to the column 'A Familiar January?'

BTW, do you think a TB trade is on the horizon?

Hockeyfan02 01-08-2007 01:34 PM

I saw it on TSN last Thursday. I was waiting for the local papers to report on it, but nothing came up. Seems like Prospal has played better since then so maybe it worked.

Nobody really knows. If there was a trade about to happen you would think it would have came right after Karlsson and Afanasenkov were waived yet that was over a week ago.

Someone posted on one of the boards about that incident. they were at the game and watched the 2 arguing. I can't find their eyewitness account, but if I do, I'll post a quote here.

Interesting...I read something about it, but didn't see it in the local paper...much like others so didn't bring it up...:dunno:

OK. Here's what the "eyewitness" posted on the Lightning's message board:

Hey bolt fans-
New to the board chiming in from Vt. Catamount country...been a fan since Marty joined TB and have subscribed to NHL center ice ever since to watch him and now Eric play. I went to the Montreal game the other night (I know, I know i should post this in other thread} and I take it the TV coverage did not show a very heated exchange between Prospal and Torts with about 6 minutes left in the 2nd. It was during a TV timeout, Prospal and Feds had only seen about 1.5 minutes of play in the second period and I noticed Torts was really laying into Prospal...at first I wasn't sure if he was trying to explain positioning but in the ensuing seconds/minutes it was clear they were at odds...Prospal wasn't backing down giving it back to coach and of course Tortorella would have no part of it becoming more and more aggitated. It finally ended as teammates grabbed Prospal(who was on the ice side of the boards) and got him away from the confrontation.

Wow, that sounds worse than what I was expecting.

gobolt7 01-08-2007 03:14 PM

I am wondering why there was nothing about this in the local media.

Maria 01-08-2007 03:53 PM

Wow that's crazy, hopefully they're okay now :(

As a conspiracy kinda guy, my guess would be because Feaster continues to feed the media ******** about how everything is hunky doory in the locker room. I read about this on Yahoo the day after the game and was waiting for the locals to report on it. It never happened and probably never will because no one wants anyone to think there are problems between the players and the coaching staff. We have been speculating as such for over a season now.

I am agreed. Wouldn't want anyone to think there's trouble in paradise. Ostriches.
