Musicians Only Thread (No Drummers Allowed!)

:sarcasm:

Talk about your equipment here! Guitars, bass, Keyboards, Washboard, Spoons, Hollowed out gourds, etc! Trade horror stories from gigs! Talk about your favorite groupies! Maybe even post a tab...? Offer/Ask for tips for certain songs.

I'll get this started. I own:
Strat knockoff
BC Rich Warlock
Ovation Celebrity Acoustic
Gibson SG

10 Watt Crate Amp (came with the Strat lol)
Dimebag Distortion pedal
Dunlop Wah
Other stuff that I'll post later

currently trying to pick the axe back up. My alternate picking took a big hit in the three years of not practicing. Sweep picking (what little there was to begin with) is gone. Rhythm is barely there. And yet I can still crank out practically all the Sabbath tunes from memory.

Black Sabbath:yo:

Also, Guitar players, don't forget to post self taken pictures of yourself posing in front of the mirror with no shirt on (flash bulb reflection is a must)!:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :sarcasm:

usiel 01-16-2007 02:25 PM

Well since there are so many muscians here this might be a fun thread

My gear:
Dingwally AB1 custom baritone bass (fanned fret)
Kubicki X-Factor

Mesa 400+
Mesa RR 1516B cabinet

Myriad amount of pedals/effects

Current project/band www.myspace.com/downtothis

itsjustsurvival 01-16-2007 02:28 PM

epiphone les paul custom
ibanez electric acoustic
squier strat
no name acoustic

peavey 20 watt practice amp
100 watt fender stage 100

boss ds 1
boss metal zone(get the most use even though it sounds so fake...)
boss rc-20xl loop station

play mostly things like hot water music, or bouncing souls, samiam, or thrice
like iron maiden in flames and children of bodom alot though the fact i cant sweep or alternate pick well makes playing solos hard for me

The Viking Fury 01-16-2007 02:31 PM

Children of Bodom and Iron Maiden are two of my favorite bands. Awhile back I was trying to get through Phantom of the opera.

The COB guitarist Alexei Laiho had a column in guitar world for awhile, as did one of my favorites, Zakk Wylde.

itsjustsurvival 01-16-2007 02:35 PM

Also have a Washburn D12 acoustic

Chimaera 01-16-2007 02:36 PM

Uh, yamaha trombone?

itsjustsurvival 01-16-2007 02:37 PM

haha, i think i might have a trumpet at my parents house as well

Atlas 01-16-2007 02:38 PM

I moved to Austin a few years ago with just a Strat and a Jazz bass. I picked up a killer Warwick bass last year. Have a Hartke head with Ashdown cabs. Was wanting a Jeff Beck strat but have since switched to wanting a Les Paul instead. Through a Mesa/Boogie Lone Star Special which I don't have enough money to buy right now.

If you guys are looking for a sweet delay the H & K "Replex" is really nice. I try to keep things scaled down. I have a TC Electronic Chorus that sounds great but I don't use it much. I'm just trying to write a great song...not having much luck so far. :biglaugh:

I played trumpet and trombone in middle school. I wish I had them now so I could play brass bonanza. Im going to figure that one out on the guitar though

Chimaera 01-16-2007 02:44 PM

I still can play my trombone decently. My parents say i should go out for the Redskins marching band. No thanks.

The Viking Fury 01-16-2007 02:46 PM

Maybe you could join up with the trumpet guy on saturday nights at the Verizon Center?

Actually that is where I bought the Kubicki back in '90 or so. Great store and they really took care of me

Warwicks are nice basses...love the growl they have. Owned an early 90s Harkte 410xl but sold a couple of years ago (was backup anyways)

TC Electronics are nice and expensive...always wanted to try one. Most expensive pedal I have is a Pigtronix envelope filter...and of course I have the best bass distortion pedal...sans amp bass driver.

Takime beater acoustic/electric

sad to say i STILL have my Inabez 570 roadster - sweet guitar back when hairspray, makeup & glitter were what made a rock band

my music has taken a backseat over the last few years though, and my playing has suffered for it... so thanks for opening an old wound with this thread ;)

hehe, i still got the guitar in the living room, and its not like i dont play a little almost everyday... but the days of sitting tirelessly for hours on end playing or laying down tracks and and jamming with myself are long gone :shakehead

should we have a Caps fan jam? kinda like a "We are the World" thing ??

pgreene 01-16-2007 03:57 PM

you guys and your inferiority complexes. just cause we drummers are infinitely cooler than any other musician doesn't mean you should shun us. you should embrace us, and thereby increase your own coolness.

Have you tried any Eden stuff? My stuff isn't too bad to drag around but I've heard the small Eden combos are great.

I saw on your myspace page that you guys did a tour...how'd it go? I'm working at making that happen myself.

(2) Tom Andersons - Cobra and Drop Top
Taylor Acoustic
Well-traveled and endearing Charvel Model 4 - Candy Apple Red, of course!
Line6 and ADA amps

G.A.S.ing for a 50w Diezel Einstein

Go Caps!

Unfortunately, Sens 5 - Caps 3

pgreene 01-16-2007 04:36 PM

dino (and anyone else who has an opinion), who makes the best acoustic these days? i'm looking to replace my old acoustic (the bridge cracked, so now i finally have an excuse). i'm kinda gotten the impression martins and taylors aren't what they used to be, but i need to do some market research. any thoughts?
