Rangers re-sign Marty Straka-1 year/$3.3 million

Quote:

The Post has learned that the 34-year-old left winger whom Tom Renney two weeks ago cited as the epitome of what the Rangers want to be, has signed a one-year contract extension through 2007-08 worth $3.3 million. Straka is earning - and that is the operative word - $3.1 million this season
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01172007...rry_brooks.htm

His third one year contract with the Rangers

$3 million for 05-06,$3.1 million for 06-07 and $3.3 million for 07-08

crisb 01-17-2007 09:19 AM

I don't know what to say. Congrats?

Thordic 01-17-2007 09:22 AM

He is an excellent deal for his price. I don't know how he is consistently underrated. Sure, playing with Jagr helps elevate him game, but even on his own he is a great player.

If he was North American, everyone in the league would point out his work ethic and whatnot. But as it is, he is largely ignored.

The New Originals 01-17-2007 09:26 AM

Good. I like Straka.

Kostik 01-17-2007 09:27 AM

Great...he is signed quite early, it shows how important he is for the team...

That's a great price for what he brings to the team.

At least some good news during this rough stretch.

RangerBoy 01-17-2007 09:34 AM

The Rangers have 9 players signed for 2007-08

Matt Cullen-$2,875,000
Aaron Ward-$2,750,000
Marek Malik-$2,500,000
Michal Roszival-$2,100,000
Fedor Tyutin-$987,500
Blair Betts-$615,000
=$23,056,833 million

Finest 01-17-2007 09:35 AM

Congrats, he definitly deserves it!!!

rigger 01-17-2007 09:37 AM

Thats a good contract especially since he will have close to 100 points this year, if he waited till seasons end he would could have had a couple offers from contenders for probably more then that.

Wouldn't mind getting rid of Cullen's, Ward's & Kaspars

I have to say Kaspars and Maliks pay checks. Def the two overpaid players on the team.

WheresBarnaby 01-17-2007 10:25 AM

He's worth it, every penny. In fact give him Jagr's contract.

Evgeny Oliker 01-17-2007 10:27 AM

...

This is an excellent move actually!

It is better to re-sign him now then wait until the end of the season, by which time he may have close to 100 points and may want more money!

Now if we can only be this smart with Pock and resign him now before the season ends and he decides to go into free agency!

I would also resign Nylander since we don't have a lot of good centers!

XploD 01-17-2007 10:40 AM

Extend Kaspar's contract... 5 years $4 million I say!

True Blue Bleed Blue 01-17-2007 10:48 AM

I'll take it...hopefully Shanny next

Bluenote13 01-17-2007 10:49 AM

Good signing. Regardless of how many kids we have coming along, we NEED capable veterans to show them the ropes on and off the ice. Straka has been a mini Graves out there this season, deserves every penny.

Fletch 01-17-2007 10:59 AM

I'm glad he's signed...

and I'm glad he doesn't think he's worth more just because he has good stats playing with Jagr. $3.3MM seems to be a fair price for both players.

Bluenote - agreed - he's a versatile player - just his production decreases signficantly when not playing with Jagr, but his effort is to me admired and the fact that he goes out there and plays like he cares is a plus for any kid coming through the system.

I agree. Rockström basically said the same thing a awhile ago. Jagr floats through practises and training camps ect., but that its harder to find players with better attitude off the ice then Straka and Nylander.

HockeyBasedNYC 01-17-2007 11:23 AM

Way to go Straka! Good for him, hes earned, and nice to see he'll be coming back.

He works his *** off.

Good signing IMO.

Jagr floats?
Didn't we all read that he is staying extra time after practise for shooting?

abev 01-17-2007 11:31 AM

Yet another example that it's NOT the same old Rangers.

You want to play here? No cushy long term deals for 30 somethings. Play first. Work hard. Then you get paid.

UAGoalieGuy 01-17-2007 11:59 AM

Nylander and Shanny next please!
