Facemask color

I currently rock a black CCM FM480 cage, and I've never really thought the blackness of it camoflaged the puck. But then again, maybe it does and all those pucks I miss are because of the color :)

So what color cage do you wear and do you think it truly makes any difference in your game? I'll consider a switch to white or chrome just to try it out. Speak on your experiences...

The chrome CCM and Jofa ones are the best. I thought the white and black ones were distracting. Alot of people like the Itech full sheild but they fog up and get scratched if you don't take enough care of them. I personally wanted to get that mirrored visor that AO wore before Marty B!tch@$$ whined to Gary Bettman and made AO take it off. Now Oakley isnt going to make it I don't think. I hate Marty.

I rocked an itech full shield way back in the 80s and it was an absolute piece of fecal matter. Never again.

Awright, one vote for bling cage. Keep it coming, peeps.

I personally like my combo...would go with a half, cept I think it's better if I played it safe.

Personally, if I got a cage, I'd go with the chrome/gunmetal color or get the I2 color on an Itech. Some say it's gimmicky, but I think a white cage is easier to see out of, but the black on the outside looks cool and supposedly sucks in some of the glare.

black/rust for my c league and drop in and half shield for b league and roller..I don't notice any difference between the two really. I don't think a cage affects you that much. I've used the same Bauer 3000 cage for the last 6 years (hence the rust) so maybe I'm just used to it.

I used a half but switched back to oldschool black cage after a deflection nearly caught my face. Hey i got my glove up, but my hand hurt like hell, imagine if i didn't get a glove on it! I took it as a sign of sorts. I'll use it for roller hockey games if i can ever find one.

I too am considering the chrome cage, mostly because this one im using honestly seems too small, and i hear the Chrome works best. I hope it doesn't reflect light into my eyes or anything haha.

currently wear a Stainless Chromed. Some claimed to have glare issues with it but I havent noticed anything along those lines. I really want to get an anodized cage in red or gold. THe red would look sweet with my paint and gear but the gold would just be the catzz azz.

ArchieIsGod 02-05-2007 08:43 AM

i wear a tinted half visor, i was never a fan of the full cage. i had a black cage and i thought it was annoying vision wise but i was talking to a guy from another team one game and he said the chrome visor is the way to go especially if you think the cages obstruct your vision. i still wear the half shield but if i was to switch id go chrome

Doctor Hook 02-05-2007 02:59 PM

Awright, found a good deal on the chromed out CCM FM480 so I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Spanks all for the input.

I have the 2 color. For me it has a few blind spots, my bauer with the narrow middle bars seemed better...

I think a chrome would be better... white on the inside seems almost... too white?

And yeah black.. id skip it.

Anybody know if the titanium face cages are significantly lighter?

MikeD 02-06-2007 12:19 PM

much but not enough to justify the price(imho)

Over $120 for a friggin' cage is unbelievable.

Ti-girl 02-06-2007 01:51 PM

I have chrome.

Its not the shiny chrome, but the dull one. Its a Bauer 5000 cage

Pioneer13 02-06-2007 02:44 PM

I agree that 120 is too much to pay for a cage, but the Itech titanium is wicked light and even stronger than your standard cage. It's the last cage you'll ever buy.

True that, if it was like $60 then I may consider it. But I've never been like, "Dang, this cage is just so friggin' heavy!"

Besides, BU players rock it so it must suck:biglaugh:

Wooty 02-06-2007 09:17 PM

What does rock mean?

Coldaccord 02-06-2007 09:40 PM

i have a white cage on my goal helmet. next helmet i buy will have a chrome cage, as thats what they all are now for the most part, because they're made out of stainless steel now. i had a cage rust on me before.

when i play forward i LOVE the half shield. that could just be because ive been standing behind a goalie helmet and cage my whole life. but the half shield is definately the cat's meow. If I start playing competitively as a forward though I'll probably wear my bauer grey cage though. i dont want to catch a high stick to the face. and that is a very likely occurance

edit: rock means to wear
