MILBURY BACKING OFF ON TRADE THREATS?
NEWSDAY: Alan Hahn reports NY Islanders GM Mike Milbury, who recently threatened to make roster changes if his club didn't snap out of its month-long malaise, now seems to be backing off from those threats. He claimed he hadn't been active in the trade market over the past month as he was hoping his club would gel, but even without that happening now suggests more time may be needed.
Spector's Note: The Isles do have the talent, as Hahn noted in his article, but they are missing something and better leadership might be it. Problem is that kind of leadership is hard to come by and tough to obtain.
Cliff Ronning to a contract please. He should come at a reasonable price and would hopefully provide some solid leadership
Tune in tomorrow for another episode of Reality TV: Life of a Mad NHL GM, also known as: Mike's Brain.
Please Milbury, zip it! If you say nothing, the media hacks have nothing to run with, the rumor-mongering will subside, and maybe your team will be able to concentrate on the next game, instead of getting plane tickets out of town.
Are the isles backing off MM's trade threats because
1.MM and Wang didn't like the offers they were getting back.
if this is the case,I'd expect the nyi to be sellers as the trade deadline approaches.
2.With Wang withdrawing from the Nets bidding,he's got $ freed up.
3.MM and Wang know the best chance the 10-13-2 nyi have to make a playoff run, is keeping the vets Peca+Hamrlik.
1 would be a good guess
