Samsonov on Waivers

Should the Rangers put in a claim? Not suggesting it, just curious as to what everyone else thinks.

I would take him.

If it doesn't spark our offence, we can always waive him again for the remainder of this year and try again next year.

Right now this teams offence is struggling and while he's not the center we really need, he's a legit sniper that could pay some nice dividends.

Also it's not going to cost us a dime in terms of assets to give up.

Worst case scenario is we have to waive him again no big deal.

I'd rather have Sammy than Hossa.

At least when you have a guy not doing much, he's still producing twice as much as Hossa

I still think that this team needs a heavyweight and Avery isn't that.

I'd play Sammy with Nylander and Jagr and slide Straka between Shanny and Prucha

Place Cullen on Avery's LW and Ortmeyer on the right and I think that would be pretty decent top 3 lines.

But I can also see why no one would want Sammy as well.

Waivers goes on Standings.. Right?

So we have how many teams in front of us?

Philly, Boston, Washington, Florida, Blackhawks, Columbs, Blues, Kings
Colorado, Phoenix....

Anybody see any of those teams taking him?

I could see the Caps taking him (put him with A.O?) or the Hawks/Aves

Nich 02-06-2007 11:43 AM

sammy - nylander - jagr
straka - avery - shanny
hossa - cullen - prucha
hollywood - blair - orts

i like, i like.....

Do you think Straka would be better in the middle than Avery & move him to LW?

how many of them have that kind of cap room??

coolbean04 02-06-2007 11:46 AM

I don't get it??? If he's waived, that means no teams wanted to give up anything for him. Wouldn't they rather take a 6th round pick or something for him instead of getting nothing? I'm sure the Rangers would've given up a 6th rounder for him.

frozenrubber 02-06-2007 11:47 AM

Where did you see Samsonov on waivers? I've only seen his request for a trade...

RangerSteve 02-06-2007 11:47 AM

if they claim Samsonov, you can kiss the idea good bye of getting a true #2 center for Shanny.

Inferno 02-06-2007 11:48 AM

i wouldnt, doesnt he make 6 mil per year?

thats insane for his level of productivity.

His cap hit is 3.5 Mill for next season too.

I'm guessing most GM's wanted Gainey to take back some bad contract(s) to make up for Samsonov's 3.5 Mill & he just wouldn't do it... just a guess...

it's in the TSN article. Go to the Trade Rumors board and you'll see the links.

Some blackhawk fans were pining for him over on the Trade Rumors board, but who knows. Sammy, IMO, isn't the ideal choice to fill a void for all the obvious reasons. But to acquire that ideal would require a price, many of us would agree, the team is ill prepared to pay.

3.525 for this year and next

towely 02-06-2007 11:49 AM

i say do it and drop orr.

SingnBluesOnBroadway 02-06-2007 11:51 AM

There's a reason he's on waivers. And unless he's become a second line center or stud d-man, I'm not sure he fits.

No you still need Orr for the big boys McGrattan, Brashear, Belak, Laraque to name a few. Avery is only 5'9-5'10' 185 lbs.

frozenrubber 02-06-2007 11:52 AM

not even a question....

No, Prucha and Dawes can't manage any meaningful icetime as it is so we don't need to add another top 6 winger when the Rangers still need a pivot...

Nich 02-06-2007 11:53 AM

it doesn't help to have orr if we keep losing anyway.

that being said, no leave straka on the wings, i can't imagine avery being worse on faceoff than he is
