Sykora.

It's been stated that he may become a free agent after this season. I thought he played well when he was on the Rangers and would love to see him in Blue again. Although he is quite old (not really really old though) He can still skate, score and handle the puck efficiently. I wouldn't mind if we picked him up come next season. Anyone agree?

disagree, if anything we should be shedding wingers.

what this team needs is a young stud center to build their team around, not another old wing. weve got plenty of youth who can play the wing coming up soon, only moves i would do if im a ranger is pick up a center, and a defenseman (Assuming there is a purge this trade deadline)

Pass

Absolutely not...your fond memories of Petr Sykora are a result of his shortlived scoring immediately following the trade.

It was a very similar situation in Edmonton. For the first few games, he was scoring and fans thought he was the best FA pickup. But then he trailed off to what he actually is, a 25 goal scorer.

But unlike other 25 goal scorers (like Prucha), he is unable/unwilling to go high traffic areas or fight down below the circles. Everyone is screaming for the removal of the "European" element to the Rangers and any addition of Petr Sykora completely flies in the face of this focus.

If were talking as a shootout specialist, sure.

But i'd rather see Cally/Dawes come up and play as a top six wing.

I honestly believe this team is moving away from the type of game Sykora plays. Just look at the reports coming from Hartford; it's a team that skates hard, hit hard, and just out-hustles the opposition. It is becoming everything the current Ranger squad is not. That is what I want to believe this braintrust has actually envisioned. It shows no hesitation to stick up for one another. Sykora has no place on such a team.

Well you guys made some pretty good points. Now that you mention it. Wolfpack players seems to be the ones to pick-up. Their young, agressive and most of them are quick paced.

Here's the deal, Sykora was nothing special. Yes he did a servicable job here but there is NO WAY we should be signing him over the other guys that will be available (Drury/Briere)

he was really good in SO's (and we could use some help there) but anybody recall his awful play in the series with the Devils?

no way do we sign him again.

One of my favorites but just not what we need...still miss the guy though, so does my gf ><. In which case he can stay out haha.

This would be a trade for The Old Regime.

What's been going on in Hartford is the best thing that has happened to the organization the whole season. A young and inexperienced squad regularly getting walloped at the beginning of the year has come together and is now dishing out the same kind of beatings it received at the start. Not only has the team gotten better but many of its individuals are showing marked improvement from beginning to end--some are big surprises like Dane Byers--and even Callahan--I don't think anybody expected him to get even 20 goals at the AHL level in his first season. Korpikoski is another and while he doesn't get a lot of points Baranka's +/- has been shooting up lately and Montoya is proving he's one of the best goalies anywhere outside the NHL.

Too late. He should be signed last summer. We need only Cs as possible UFO signings.

shoothepuck 02-26-2007 03:30 PM

Pass, plus ex-Devils should stay away from NY

Boy are you right. Man it amazing to see this guy light it up at the start year and I was just pleading we could sign to an extension but of course he fell off and is so inconsistent his identity. The guy can probably play another good 5-6 yrs IMO but if teams are smart that will be 5-6 one year deals.

Really enjoyed the Messier ceremony in NY and really looking forward to ceremony tomorrow night should be great.
