Flames need a C in the worst way...who ya got?

With Yelle going down tonight in the 2nd period, and not returning (calling it a "leg" injury) the Flames are now down all 4 of their starting Centers. Reinprecht (broken bone in foot) Conroy (torn MCL), Betts (Seperated shoulder).

So, knowing the Flames are going to go on the cheap if they do anything more than a call-up, who have your teams got lying around who are cheap, good defensively, and have a bit of size?

You're Retarded 12-11-2003 06:52 PM

Well, we've got Jeff Halpern or Michael Nylander though they're both undersized. Interested?

Oiler94 12-11-2003 06:55 PM

Mike Comrie LOL

Comrie & 3rd rounder for Phaneuf & Leopold

Maybe should they trade Turek? :dunno:

thestonedkoala 12-11-2003 07:03 PM

Yeah like Turek will bring in something...

We got Hendrickson, Dowd, Berzins, Wallin, Cavanaugh, Cullen (though I think he's out), Zholtok, Cavosie, Choiunard, and I think that's it.

The goalie market is very weak right now. Teams like Detroit (Curtis Joseph) and Atlanta (Jani Hurme or Byron Dafoe) are looking to move goalies and there aren't too many takers right now. The Avs Achilles heel is probably goaltending, but they're winning right now, so they probably wouldn't be interested. Contrary to what many believe, the Canucks would not be interested in Turek. The Rangers don't need a goalie. No one really wants a goalie right now. There are more sellers than buyers and that means goalies like Turek are not in high demand.

Throw in factors like Turek's large salary and inconsistent play, plus the fact that his injury could affect his play, and it's hard to see him getting much interest. Not even a "rent-a-player" center to fill in for guys like Conroy and Reinprecht.

How about a guy like Todd White? You might dislike his size and consider him to be a "coattail rider", but he can score goals and make players. The Sens might be willing to move him considering his natural position is center (an area that they are loaded in) and that they perhaps need some sort of a trade to shake things up a bit.

Just a suggestion of course.

What about that Bouchard kid?

He's a center, ain't he? ;)

thestonedkoala 12-11-2003 07:11 PM

But he's not for trade, either is O'Sullivan or Walz, as you can tell those three are nearly untouchable...

Plus Bouchard is off-injured...DAMN CARON!

Helpern would fit nicely into CGY system.

#2FAN 12-11-2003 07:22 PM

cough cough Gomez, you will have to overpay for him now.

How about Mike Comrie for Ruslan Zainullin?

Poor Zainullen has been traded a lot for a guy who hasn't even played in the NHL yet. Maybe he's Russia's answer to J.J. Daigneault. :dunno:

Curtis Brown (1.6) for Denis Gauthier (1.3)

Blackhawkpride 12-11-2003 07:54 PM

How about Arnason, Korolev, McLean, or Zhamnov from the Blackhawks.

How about Zhamnov or Arnason for Gauthier/Lydman/Regehr?

Angered Hab 12-11-2003 07:56 PM

Tell you what, since you're that desperate you can have Pierre Turgeon for almost nothing. In fact, we will gift wrap him and send him to you just in time for Christmas.

If you gift wrap him in $10,000 bills (if such a thing exists), it's a deal.

How about Wimpy Nedved?

Nedved and Purinton to Flames for Denis Gauthier, Martin Gelinas and McAmmond

That sounds like an astute description of one Mr. Shawn Horcoff. Although the odds of a Calgary-Edmonton deal are slim.

Mizral 12-11-2003 08:55 PM

Halpern or Nylander would both be great additions to the Flames, though isn't Nylander injured too?

Anyhow, Nylander had a lot of chemistry with McAmmond a few years ago in Chicago. It might be worthwhile to make a move for him, but does Calgary have much room in the payroll?

I could see a guy like Hendrickson or better yet, White in Ottawa brought in for a pick or a prospect. Maybe Taratukhin for one of those guys.

Ice Cream Man 12-11-2003 09:10 PM

Well, whatever the case, we need a temporary stop-gap solution. Too bad Tony Hrkac was signed by Nashville, he'd be the solution we'd probably be looking for.

Burke's Evil Spirit 12-11-2003 09:17 PM

To Cliff Ronning: $700 000
To CGY: Cliff Ronning

kobasew07 12-11-2003 09:34 PM

Dome?

Anyone think that Robert Dome would come back to Calgary from the Swedish Elite league? I think if he does come back, he would want a guarantee from Sutter to stay the rest of the season and playoff :D. How is Dome doing in Sweden? anyone know?

Mowzie 12-11-2003 09:40 PM

M.Comrie for S.Donovan the scoring machine.:yo:
