I know Sather gets alot of criticism on this board, but it looks as if forbes that Sather is the 12th best GM in sports.

Thought this was interesting, even if it is attributed to the success he had in edmonton

OK, first the premise when relating it to Glen Sather is off because it's comparing his current success to his predecessor. Right now, compared to Neil Smith at the very best it's even, at worst NS has him beat by a country mile due to the 91-92 President's trophy and the fact that Glen has NO PO wins in NY at all.

Further, Glen had NO predecessor in Edmonton so there's nothing to compare it to.

second criteria we are talking about payroll? Until Sather's nuts were cut off by the salary cap, he had one of, if not the highest payroll in the league and no PO games to show for it.

The fact that he's listed in the top 20 in just the NHL would be a joke. To list him in the top 15 out of all the 4 major sports shows how idiotic this article is.

pathetic

Like everything else - its all perception.

It's amazing how far past accolades can take one person.

I'm assuming the biggest positive about the team in Sather's time here is that, despite godawful results on the ice, the team still makes money. I guess because the Rangers are an 81 year old team with a large fan base and play in the richest city in America that Sather is a good GM. Absolutely ridiculous. Dolan's gonna love throwing this up on the bulletin board.

Well they are basing it on his career and mostly on the Edmonton years. He built a dynasty and did win 5 cups. He did draft Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Kurri and an insane amount of HOFers and amazing players. They also did acknowledge his lack of success in NY. So you might not agree with their perception but at least they did their homework and based it on an informed opinion.

Like everyone has said, this is primarily based on his success in Edmonton, not his failure in New York. A lot of the information is outdated which is the problem with this list...look at who the #1 GM is in all of sports...the T-Wolves GM, a franchise who has won 1 playoff series in their existance...Hell, I could devise a formula in which I had Sather ranked as the #1 GM, just because I did it doesn't mean it's true.

5 cups in Edmonton is what even gets listed, (not that anyone can take that away from him), but if this article was based on "what have you done for me lately Glen", he wouldn't even be mentioned.

FWIW, Sather was just ranked 24th out of the NHL's 30 GM's in their recent issue.
