OT - Pens close to leaving Pittsburgh

An impasse was declared in arena talks and they will actively look to relocate the team.

I'm holding out for Winnipeg :P

Damn it... it would broke my heart, Nordiques 2.0 :(

Pittsburgh has great fans and deserve to keep its team.

Whitesnake 03-05-2007 02:04 PM

Pens for Habs and a 2nd.....:D

I would prefer Quebec City :D

Maybe Patrick Roy, the Tanguay's family and Marcel Aubut will pull out a rabbit out of their hat and bring the team there. :sarcasm:

All about the benjamins.

I wish the NHL would drop a few of the less-popular teams, and allow a hockey-crazy city to get an NHL team. The fact that 6 canadian teams produce a bigger revenue (shirts, jerseys, other junk) than 24 american teams has to say something.

Where's Balsillie now? Bring them to K-W! lol

I think Hamilton would be a good choice. Speaking of Hamilton I have a little joke that I would like to share. It's kind of old...but I still like it anyways.

A few years back I was out on a date with this girl and we were sitting in the car at a drive-in movie making out in the back seat. Well...after a few minutes things started to get hot and heavy. While in the midst of this she turns to me and says "OoOoh...kiss me where it smells". So I get up...all frustrated, jump over the front seat and drive her to Hamilton. ;)

Hey man, the gf is from Hamilton... not sure what that implies, but I somehow don't like it. :p:

But Hamilton does stink.

Well, the Colisee could be used for the first years and they could build another arena.

Well..if you have been to Hamilton, you know that the city stinks because of the steel mills, not the people. The people there are actually very nice.

coolguy21415 03-05-2007 02:13 PM

Hamilton is within two NHL regions already (which is about 100km circumference from the arena). Might as well slap another team in Toronto (which isn't a bad idea, frankly).

I know...Buffalo and the Leafs would probably fight like hell to prevent this from ever happening. But there is a large enough fan base that I don't think either team would be greatly effected.

Adding another team in T.O. would definitely be an interesting idea.

I miss the old Nordique/Habs rivalry....if they had a proper arena, I would be all for it.

2 teams in the same city? :dunno:

Habitant#1 03-05-2007 02:18 PM

Wherever it is, I hope Corsby hates it.

I know, but I don't think that Pitts is part of the problem. The always had a solid fan base and what they lack is corporate support and a new building. Ironicly those are the same things the Nords were lacking back in the days. That's why I'm very attached to the Pens and that's why (that and the fact they have my two favorite players in Crosby and Fleury) they're my second favorite team. I don't want them to suffer the same faith my Nords did.

Not sure the Copps Colliseum is still NHL-worthy though. Better than the Colisée is QC for sure but I don't think it could be a permanent home for an NHL team anymore.

KC & Winnipeg have brand spankin' new arenas ready for a team right away.

Anyway, it would definitely be cool to have a team return to Canada, where ever that may be.

NY State has Buffalo, NY Islander, Rangers, Devils, so why not 2 teams in Toronto. It might not be right in Toronto, but it can be in the GTA. Within the city limits for those of you that don't know what a GTA is.
