and down the stretch they come

we have a 1pt lead, but Det has a game. so what is left:

Nsh - @Edm, Edm, Det, Dal, Chi, StL, @Col
Det - Stl, Anh, @Nash, Dal, @Clb, Clb, @Chi, Chi

Dal, StL, and Chi are the same for both teams. so that leaves us with Edmx2, @Col vs them with Anh, Clb, @Clb & @Chi which is a push, maybe slight edge to us. so the home game vs Det is looming huge for the central title if not conference title(assuming neither team has too many brainfarts).

looking outside the central -Anh trails us by 3pts with a game:
Anh - Dal, @Det, @Chi, @Clb, @Stl, SJ, @Dal, @Clb
i think we have a greater edge here as most of these game should be difficult. just don't need to see and OT game vs Det.

Van trails us by 5pts with a game:
Van - Col, @Col, @LA, @Cal, Col, @SJ, @Phx
2 easy games and the other are vs PO teams. Col can make or break themselves with 3 games left against Van. don't think they can make up 5pts on us with 7 games left, but stranger things have happened.

still want Cal in the 1st round, which would mean we need to take the conference title.

Buff is even with 2 games:
Buff - Tor, @Tor, NJ, NYI, @Mtl, @Pitt, Bos, @Wsh, @Phl
several tough games before it eases up.

for us to take the president's we will almost need to win out. they will have to lose at least 2 and have an OTL. that may be a stretch, but hey with 7 games left we still have a good shot at the div, conf and NHL titles(which is a new feeling). we have come a long way to taking that first big step towards history. now nobody get hurt and everyone sleep in the hyperbaric chamber to heal-up fast for the POs.

Nashville should win the rest of the games of the season.

What does that trophy mean?

Playing in the with teams like Chicago, CBus and StL? I put no weight in that trophy at all with the way the NHL has created the scheduling. No offense Pred fans.

The real show begins in two weeks and that big shiny thing is more important.

Good Luck!

irisheyes555 03-23-2007 05:40 PM

as we have no shiny things anything is good. besides i would rather finish 1st and face calgary in the 1st round than Dal, Mn or SJ.

In 88 head-to-head games between the Pacific and the Central, the Central has 4 more wins and 6 more points.

Those three Central doormats are a combined 23-22-6 against the Pacific.

The more you know...

hey don't throw out facts, you'll confuse some people..

i know things aren't that much fun right now what with the injuries and the struggles here on the road recently..

but, frankly i'm stunned that at this point and time, March 23rd, after game 75, what with all our critical injuries, after absolutely the toughest stretch of our schedule now behind us, with us having lost the last 3 headup games with the wings, and in general not really playing good hockey for a couple of weeks... if you'd have told me we'd be still leading the central division and the western conference with 7 games to go, after slumping during the last part of the easiest 20 game stretch (games 42-62) and giving up our lead heading straight into the murderers row we had in games 62-75, and that we'd have 5 starting forwards out for most of that stretch, and that we would lose 3 of the 4 head to head games with the wings during those 13 games, i'd have told you you were crazy.. i'm absolutely stunned

we now head into the home stretch, in a situation where the schedule actually favors us.. 7 games remaining. all 7 winnable games, 5 at home, and with only two on the road. we're one good winning streak away from accomplishing great, monumental things for this franchise.

time to recharge batteries and expectations as fans... things should get better and build toward a huge finish to a great season.

azsharkfan 03-23-2007 06:10 PM

Uhm...the more I know!

Three solid teams in the Pacific (Anaheim, Dallas and SJ)

vs.

Two solid teams in the Central (Detroit and Nashville)

It's all a good debate. Not to poke fun at the original post, but which Division in the East did the Preds miss this year? With the scheduling the way it is, that award is meaningless. It an adjustment, which won't happen as long as Bettman's in control, would change my stance.

I thought the head-to-head games ended that debate? Or would you like more of a sample size than just 88 games. ;)

Seriously though, it's all pointless because you could say you have one more great team, but I would argue that your worst teams are worse than the Centrals.

In the end, all you can fall back on is average points (Pacific wins this) and head-to-head (Central wins this). I'm just saying it's foolish to single out the Central as so bad when the difference between the Central and the Pacific is minimal based on virtually every measure.

irisheyes555 03-23-2007 07:10 PM

and none of this changes the fact that i want all of the bright shineys here; central title, western conference title, presidents title, lord stanleys drinking cup (cuz none of the individual awards are coming our way nore were they likely since we don't have specialized players, but lord stanley is a team thang). and squeal like a little girl if it ain't all still possible. i love irony and 1 regular season national TV appearances for a cup winner is about as good as it gets. self-fulfilling prophecy of positive thinking. get healthy and get busy. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Looking at the schedule it sucks for us Detroit gets 4 free points to close the season Chicago does not even try to win when they play the Wings:rant:

azsharkfan 03-23-2007 10:04 PM

2006-2007 Nashville Predators, NHL STANLEY CUP Champions...

Keep dreaming. They WANT Kiprusoff in the first round over beat-up Fernandez or perennial playoff doormat Turco. :shakehead

Wait till they see just how horrible the calls are come playoffs when you play a team inside Western Canada..... :help:

Hey now, you guys have Edmonton back to back. I don't think The Oil have won a game since Gretzky was traded. Atleast it feels that way. ;)

I have to agree ... great game in all seriousness ... the TSN/Leaf crew has just reached Broons level of homerism tonight

Jarnberg 03-24-2007 09:30 AM

One of the most important parts of the season and we're without Harts, Sully, Erat.

It only applies to the players; we are free to make as many excuses as we want.

Any word on Hartnell or Sullivan's return? Sullivan was day to day, 4 weeks ago. Hartnell was supposed to miss 4 weeks, 4 weeks ago, still no word. Are either of them skating?

Sullivan is skating, and has been...I think they're just being REALLY careful...and he's still got some issues. Hartnell I would think should be back soon, considering he played in a game AFTER he broke his foot. It couldn't have been that bad.

triggrman 03-25-2007 12:26 AM

I almost forgot Nichol, would like an update on him too, it's been 2 weeks, which is how long they said he'd be out.

PeterAngelo 03-25-2007 12:43 AM

k, with Detroit getting 1 point and Nashville 2 today, the lead is back to even points (preds by 2 having played 1 game more). My question now that it seems more relevant, who has the tiebreaker if it comes down to it, Nashville or Detroit?

If points are the same, the first tie-breaker is # of wins, which we have...

Nashville - 48 wins
Detroit - 45 wins
