Jean-Pierre Dumont

Do you think he might be traded to clear salary to retain Hartnell?

What would it take to get him in Montreal?

Nope.

He was great all year, and he's not that expensive.

Exactly what I was thinking...

Didn't hurt to ask... :)

Do you guys expect big changes?

I mean do you think the team will try to retain Hartnell, Kariya and Timonen?

These three guys could be really interesting on the market. What kind of deal do you think they're going to be seeking?

DontCallPlayersStuds 04-20-2007 11:10 PM

It would be ballsy of Kariya and Timonen to ask for anything other than minor raises...but I know how the market works.

JP Dumont was a terrific addition. He's going nowhere.

The other teams seem to have a lot of interest in Timonen but you guys didn't look that impress with his play this season.

What happened to him?

As for Dumont, I can't believe that Gainey let this guy pass in front of him. Why? Because we already signed Samsonov? :help:

Hartnell will make some cash. He's the Pred I hope most to see come back. I think he goes to the highest bidder. Hopefully, its us.

Kariya is the face of the franchise, a fan favorite, and up until about a month and a half ago, produced steadily. I think a quiet guy like him fits well in Nashville. I think he'll get a raise and be back.

This might just be me, but I wouldnt mind seeing Timonen take a walk. He's going to get some big bucks, and we have similar defenseman to the game he plays. Take the money he was going to get, and throw it at the biggest, nastiest d-man out there.

Of course, JMHO.

I dont think wholesale changes are needed. Nabby standing on his head + no discipline = talented team playing golf too early. Lets get a veteran D-man to calm the kids down + healthy Sully and Erat and I still think were ready for a run next April.

On the other hand, I'd like to see Hartnell and Timonen kept(with a defenseman signed\traded for to take some pressure off and let him play fewer minutes against lower lines) and Kariya let walk.

Strange but Craig Rivet might be the solution for the veteran d-man you're talking about...

When I think about Hartnell, I'm seeing about 4M$. Is is about right?

I don't think we can or will pay that, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone did.

Hartnell will create a bidding war. Every team could use such a player.

I think he likes Nashville. I hope for you that he will stay. That said, I would be REALLY happy to see him sign with the Habs.

I thought the Habs had their own budding PF in Guillaume Latendresse ... why would they need 2 of 'em ?

Because they aren't the same kind of "PF".

Hartnell can play a solid two-way game. Latendresse is still young but he will never reach the same level than Hatnell.

Hartnell is also the best leader of the two.

Latendresse will be the best goalscorer of the two.

Hartnell is such a complete player. Like I said before, he's the kind of guy every team wants.

Since both names were mentioned, Rivet and Hannan are both UFA's. Rivet has been unabashed in his joy at being in San Jose and having a good role in a city that doesnt criticize his every single mistake. He said this week, he'd like to stay "if the team would have him."

Hannan hasn't said a thing but has been in SJ his whole career. If the Sharks win the Cup, I would see him deciding that a goal of his was reached, and he will go to the highest bidder. This would be his year to take care of his family. If a team offers him $5.5MM over 4-5 years, the Sharks wont be able to sign him. And I think someone will offer him that money. He is durable, tough, a proven commodity, and a leader. He is just the player that many teams would want for their #1 Dman.

Brokencow 04-21-2007 05:38 AM

J.P. Dumont is amazing. Do not trade him. Dumont, Erat, and Sullivan are underated and well worth whatever they want. Build the team around them. As a Sharks fan I am more than afraid of a Nashville team who has those 3 healthy. Next year I wish you the best of health and not to meet you in the 1st round!!

Yeti 04-21-2007 02:17 PM

Apart from Vokoun, Dumont was the best Preds player in the series, IMO. I never really thought he was that good of a player in Buffalo, but he impressed the heck out of me in the series against the Sharks.
