Best experience at a game..

Hey all,

I was wondering what your best experience while at a game is. Here is mine:

I went to the Garden for game 4 of this years Atlanta series. My friend got me two tix in sec. 328 for face value (65). When I met up with him, he hands me two luxury suite tickets that he was able to get. So we sold the tickets to 328.

In the luxury suite, Adam Graves  hung out in the booth the ENTIRE game and was soooo nice (needless to say). Got a picture with him and some autographed photos.

Then I went to the bar by gate 60 to meet some friends and ran into none other than Nick Fotiu (from my screen name, you can probably guess I was excited). I got him to autograph my playoff ticket and take a picture with me....:vhappy:
BY FAR, my best experience at a game. I got real lucky for sure.

I was just wondering what your best experiences have been as I am sure you each have some cool stories.

It may not be the best overall, but game 3 this year was REAL hard to beat. I can't remember if I've ever seen that sort of celebration at the Garden live.

Just being at Game 6 of the 94 ECF.

I don't know about best, but most memorable was at a Capitals-Rangers game in DC when I was 19. Apparently my buddies and I were leaning forward in our seats too far (and so was everyone else, which is why we had to) and these guys kept giving us ****. One guy pushed my buddy in the back oh his head with his foot, and my buddy turned around and slugged the guy- knocked him out cold. THe guy's buddy tried to grab my friend, so I hit him in the jaw. It hardly fazed him though... We were escorted out, arrested, charged with 3rd degree assault. Nothing came of it, we agreed to take these anger classes for first time offenders and spent 4 months on probation. Good times, though I was angry my friend knocked a guy out and I didn't even knock the guy off his feet ;).

2 moments stand out for me.

Taking my wife (GF at the time) to a playoff game in 91 against the Islanders. The game in which James Patrick of all people lays a thunderous open ice check on Patty La-LaFontaine knocking him out and out of the game.

What Al "Radar" Arbour did at the end of that game is, was and will remain a tarnished mark on what was a great coaching career for him. That was pure bush.

The 2nd was being at the Garden for the raising of Messier's Jersey.

Grown men all around me weeping because of what Messier meant to this team, city and group of fans in the greater New York area. To witness the finality of what it meant to see the jersey raise to the rafters was a bit more than some could handle

I was a Basher as his career wore on, I take nothing back, but it was imparative that I make that game because of the respect I have for Mark Messier and what he was able to accomplish for me as a Fan.

:biglaugh: classic. Reminds me of when I went to see Hartford Wolfpack in the playoffs against the Portland Pirates a few years ago and I was seated right next to the visitors penalty box and some guy Robitaille (not luc or randy) squirted me with the water bottle and later in the game tried to reach around the partition and grab my sleeve... Luckily, no arrest for me. ;)

Domi vs Probert Round 1

Everyone has seen the fight but what happened when they went to commercial was the best part. Domi draws blood from probert and does his championship belt move as he goes to the box, the garden is going crazy. A scuffle breaks out where I think broten and cirella fought 2 red wings but it was over quick. When they go to commercial Probert has a huge cut over his left eye and needs to go to the locker room to get stitches. He skates towards the visitor/zamboni entrance to get off the ice and for some reason the guy in charge of opening that door wasn't opening it. So Probert is standign there banging on the glass to get them to open the door with blood running down his face, it was probably only about 10 seconds before they finally opened it but it felt liek 10 minutes. As he is standing there banging on the glass Domi is standing in the penalty box doing the championship belt move playing to the crowd and the crowd is going nuts and taunting Probert. Probert was enraged i thought he was gonna punch through the glass. It was one of those great moments that you only would have seen if you went to the game because this all happened during a TV timeout.

there is the clip for those of you who never saw the fight.

I remember that game, it was bush league by Arbour.

I was at the Messier one, definitely right up there for me.. JUST below meeting Nick Fotiu ;)

In 1999 I was Bar Mitzvahed and my theme was the NHL. My friends and I all sat at the Ranger table. My dad's client knew I was a big fan and he had season tickets. The Rangers were pretty crappy that year and he figured he would give me two tickets to the last game of the season. After all, they were missing the POs so the game didn't mean much. Well, I guess you could see where this is going. The DAY AFTER my bar mitzvah, Wayne Gretzky announced that 1999 would be his last NHL season. Therefore, the game that I had tickets to was to be Gretzky's last game ever.

The tix I had were pretty amazing. I was in the third row behind the Ranger goal. I was sitting one row behind Messier and Lemieux. I remember Messier got a huge ovation and I knew that meant he was coming back to the NYR.

Thats my best moment at a game.

I was also there for Messier's 500th against the Flames, he scored it on a hatrick. Thats my second, albeit a distant second, favorite moment.

NYRSinceBirth 04-25-2007 01:22 PM

Mine are weak, as I never end up with tickets, but from this season I was at the Cap game at the end of December with the Shanny/Brashear fight, and The Blues game at the end of the season that Renney reffered to as the turning point.

My pops has been to some great games though, he was on the glass behind the ATL bench for game 4 last week, he sat next to a guy that built Heatley's house and was about to build Kovy's house. He was also at Messier night, he also made it some Playoff games in 94 and he even snuck into the Garden in '72 for a game or two. (Back in the day you were able to sneak in and pay the usher for a seat, he did it ALL the time, 15 games a season for my dad wasn't uncommon.)

I don't want to mention the obvious games so here's one...

The first Rangers/Flyers game in 2001 when Lindros faced the Flyers for the first time. He scored a goal in the 1st period and the Garden went nuts. Eric was playing like an animal in that game -- hammering Roenick into the boards, going after Primeau etc. The Rangers won that game 4-2 -- Richter stopped Hlavac's penalty shot, Fleury scored a great goal off a tic-tac-toe play by York & Lindros and so on.

One weird experience was the last Rangers/Habs game this season. There were probably gazillion Habs fans and they had whole sections invaded.

Staggarelli 04-25-2007 01:39 PM

I have a tie...

1) First game of 1995 when they raised the Cup Banner. Seats were to the right of the goal line so it went up right in front of us....

2) The 15 Round Shootout against the Caps last year.

Forechecker 04-25-2007 02:04 PM

1) Leetchie scoring the go-ahead goal right in front of me in game 1 against the Caps in '94. I had ice-level seats at the goalie's right face off circle, it was awesome.

2) Richter's shut-out of the Debbies in '97 EC semi-finals at MSG

RangerBoy 04-25-2007 02:12 PM

The entire 1994 and 1997 playoff runs.Attended 17 of the 19 playoff home games those two seasons.Missed game 2 of the Rangers-Islanders and game 5 of the Rangers-Capitals.They were both on Monday nights-late class

The night Mark Messier came back to the Garden as a Canuck in November 1997.I stood up and cheered when Messier scored and when Messier was named #1 star of the game

blue2noise 04-25-2007 02:17 PM

* Gretzky scores a hatty to beat the Panthers in the playoffs
* A pane of glass falls on his wife Janet Jones
* Messier's return as a Cunuck
* Messier's return as a Ranger
* Rangers come back from 4 first period goal deficit to beat the fishsticks at NC

And one of my fondest memories was watching the '94 road cup games at the Garden on the big scoreboard. They sold tix for 5 bucks and it was full up to the 100's. They even brought out the zamboni between periods. Crowd was nuts!

thesnake 04-25-2007 02:28 PM

I've been to all the cool games over the past 9 years (not as many as I'd like unfortunately)...

Richter Night
Messier Night
Gretzky Las game...

But my coolest night was while I was in college. My roommate was from Chesire CT and was good pals with Leetch's younger brother (they played HS baseball together), and the Leetch's were family friends with my pal's family.

One day we got the call that we had tickets from the Leetch family. We drove down to the garden and watched the game with Mr & Ms Leetch in their seats. Afterwards, they took us down into the tunnel where we meet Leetch and he chatted with us for a bit. We then headed up to the player's reception room where most of the players were hangin out after the game with their guests and talked to Leetch a little more. I was the outsider there as everyone else knew him from Chesire... it was very cool. To top it off, Ms Leetch sent me an autographed picture a few weeks later...

Seein as he's my all time favorite player, i'll be hard pressed to top that night! :)

The Rangers/Flyers game was crazy.... i was splitting season tix at the time in 422 (row E) and I remember alot of Philly fans running around wearing orange T-Shirts with Lindros and the number 88 on the back... they all had a big X with tape over his name/number... there was a big brawl a few sections over from me. I distinctly remember a flyers fans sneakers nearly hit the cieling as he was tossed down the stairs... they fought until they were too tired as security was so busy they didnt show for like 10 mins... crazy game.

Captain Monglobster 04-25-2007 03:05 PM

Game three vs Atlanta was the most fun I've ever had at a game easily.

But the "best experience" has to be Messier night. The come from behind victory against the Oilers was something out of a movie. The level of noise as the banner was raised hasn't been matched since. The 94 cup team along with the Stanley Cup - I couldn't help but imagine how the person in my seat reacted when they won it 12 years earlier.

The real highlight wasn't the ceremony or game though. At one point during the second half of the game me and my friend hear a commotion behind us (we're in the 400's). I turn around and Messier is standing there with his hands reaching out to everyone like Jesus, people are patting him on the back and shaking his hand and he has the biggest smile I've ever seen across his face. My friend tripped going up the seats and didn't get to meet him but I got to touch his hand, which is more gratifying than getting a full handshake from almost any other player. I was gloating about it to my friend and you could see that he regretted missing his chance, but about 15 minutes later Messier came back and my friend made the most of it.

I think it'll take seeing the Stanley Cup won in person to top that for me.

I really hope they do that this year IF the Rangers progress in the playoffs any further.
