Nonis and Lamoriello deep in conversation

...as seen on the draft floor... they just now separated.

If something goes down between the Canucks and Devils, I expect Gomez to head west. What picks does Vancouver have in the 1st round?

I can't see that, the Canucks won't have the cap space to sign Gomez. Maybe New Jersey wants to trade up?

I dont believe they can trade him, since he isnt technically signed. Unless Lou signed him to a deal earlier today, I dont believe they can talk about trading Gomez to anyone. I dont see this one happening.

Bobby Lou 06-22-2007 05:04 PM

I can see New Jersey having some interest in Schneider. I'm not all that informed on their prospect situation, but it seems like now would be the time to start planning for Brodeur's possible retirement. Additionally, for some reason I could see a deal occuring where New Jersey took enough salary back to make signing Gomez possible.

STA 06-22-2007 05:06 PM

Cory Schneider, I suspect.

Brodeur isn't getting any younger.

*cough*Hartnell and Timonen*cough*

Bobby Lou 06-22-2007 05:07 PM

Additionally, who does New Jersey have slotted in as Gomez's replacement? Would re-acquiring Morrison for a year be of interest to them?

Schneider I can definitely see.

Brodeur 06-22-2007 05:08 PM

On the Devils' 2003 championship there's a clip of him and then Anaheim GM Bryan Murray talking at the 2002 Draft. Then the cameras captured audio of Murray talking to another guy in the Ducks' braintrust, something to the effect of:

"Lou says 'Sykora is a hell of a player' and I'm like 'Jeff Friesen is a hell of a player.' But you know, with Lou, once he gets started, he's usually pretty good about it. I think we'll get something done."

And then a few weeks later they worked out Sykora/Commodore/Pohanka for Friesen/Tverdovsky/Balmochynykh.

Lou probably just told Dave that he's informed the NHL that pick #25 is actually New Jerseys because Lou ****ing said so.

The Cap is going up, If the Canucks can move Morrison, or Ohlund the trade can work.

My thought as well.

A package of Schneider/Morrison might be appealing to New Jersey, since they'll get an heir-apparent to Brodeur, and a top 6 centre to replace Gomez at a much cheaper price.

Vancouver wouldn't take salary back for Schneider. He would be a great fit for NJ because he is about 2 years away. He could step right in after Brodeur. His trouble with Vancouver is he doesn't want to caddy for Luongo who is only 27.

Vancouver needs a top 6 forward. Period. If they can't do that they could move Schneider for prospects although that would be a distant second.

DevilsFan38 06-22-2007 05:23 PM

I don't know about Schneider, Marty will be around for another five seasons (and personally, I wouldn't be suprised if he played a few more after that), so the Devils aren't exactly in imminent need of goaltending.

Morrison or Ohlund (if he was willing to waive his NTC) could be interesting.

RandV 06-22-2007 05:37 PM

I can't think of who Nonis would want (realistically) from the Devils though. Zajac would be a nice pickup for us, but with the Devils likely losing Gomez to free agency I'd think they'd want to keep their young offensive players.

Colonel Angus 06-22-2007 05:49 PM

Weren't there issues between Morrison and Lou that led to him being shipped in the Mogilny deal? I don't see why Lou would try to acquire someone who was unhappy in NJ before.

I wasn't a fan back when Morrison got traded and I don't know what prompted the trade, I'm looking at it purely from a standpoint of what the Devils need, and that's a center and maybe some defense.

zetterberg40 06-22-2007 05:57 PM

is this really needed... of course GMs are going to talk to eachother, but if its for longer then a minute this means trade talk..?

i bet holland and giguere are talking, but i bet they wont trade with eachother..

Schneider, Bourdon and our first for Zajac and their second? :naughty:
