ANAHEIM, Calif. (CP) - The Stanley Cup-champion Anaheim Ducks re-signed defencemen Sean O'Donnell and Kent Huskins to two-year contract extensions Saturday.

O'Donnell will received US$1.25 million per season while Huskins' deal covers $1.25 million ($600,000 next year and $650,000 in 2008-'09).

Would have preferred only one year for OD, but otherwise these contracts look pretty good. :yo:

Yeah, the two years is a little risky, but really, he played like a $3 million guy last year. The salary's fine.

2 years on an over 35 player? You know what that means... Let's just hope OD doesn't lose too many steps that he can't even contribute as a 5-6 in the 2nd year.

Huskins salary seems a little high for a 5th defenseman, but then isn't he giving up a year of UFA? So maybe that's a good price.

It's possible the min is 500. That number sticks in my head for some reason. Like it went up 25k each season.

No, you're right. It's $475k this year and next. I thought it went up more than that for some reason.

But Huskins' salary is fine. A little improvement and he'll contend for a top four spot.

I think OD decided to take a little less salary, so he could get that extra year.

And not to forget...to play for the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks.

I'd let DiPenta and Jackman walk and bring in a #5 d-man on the market and keep Rome as the 7th d-man. Assuming Scotty comes back.

I'd bet Joey D will be back, unless he wants a significant raise or wants to live elsewhere. He's a textbook #6 guy and one of Carlyle's guys.

We need a more offensive d-man in the bottom pair. Husky moves the puck well but doesn't have much of a shot. If it came down to keeping Jackman or Joey I'd say Jackman because he can put points up.

I'd like to see Skinner fight for that 7th spot in Sept too. Rome seems to be the front runner right now but I like the way Skinner skates and moves the puck better.

I think i read something in the OC paper that Burke quoted when talking to Chris at the NHL Awards ceremony about Sean he said no defenseman has a good year without a great partner.

I think its a great deal considering they both feel like they have good chemistry together.

Worst case Odonnel and Huskins are our 4th & 5th defenseman... best case they are are 5 & 6th (if Niedermayer comes back we sign a FA like Schneider).

I am not a big fan of Huskins, but I am well aware there is worse out there. On the other hand, I am so happy we re-signed O'Donnell. The salary he got fits him pretty well and he is a pretty solid d-man. I see a lot of people are not very happy for the two years he got, but I see that as a good thing.

Not unhappy. For the salary, it's pretty low-risk. I like OD's comment about wanting to play here and wanting to play the style that we play.

That quote about bringing May, DiPenta and Thornton coming back is interesting. Looks like Burke pretty much wants to keep the entire team intact. Except for Shannon, anyway.

That must have been a heck of a locker room. Usually there's at least one guy who grouses about playing time or something. Well, okay, that was probably Bryz, and he's probably gone.

Someone already said this, but I think a little turnover is a good thing. Complacency is always something that you have to worry about after winning the Cup.
