Shanny & Avery

Drury and Gomez are signed. Nylander is gone. What is the fate of Shanny and Avery? Do we try to resign them both, or one over the other? Who is more important? I think we should sign Shannahan to a 1 or 2 year deal, and Avery to a 4 year deal. They are both big parts to this team.

broadwayblue 07-03-2007 04:11 PM

They will both be signed. Shanny will get a 1 year deal with a low cap hit...and Avery will get around 3 years for around $8m if I had to guess.

FutureGM97 07-03-2007 04:14 PM

i think the Rangers are just gonna focus on resigning everyone for now- if any other moves are made- they will have to be trades.

wolfgaze 07-03-2007 04:47 PM

My guess is that Avery gets a 3 year deal with $1.8 mil per season...

Shanny gets signed for $2 mil + signing bonus and other incentives but we will only take a $2 mil cap hit.

bOnEs516 07-03-2007 05:01 PM

I think we resign both of em....at least I hope so....i wanna see hossa resigned as well

HockeyBasedNYC 07-03-2007 05:02 PM

Amazing that everyones gonna fit in after these deals, what a job.

And imagine if some idiot GM sends an offer sheet for Prucha, a handful of first rounders come our way.
AND he's said that its "not about the money" so theyll prb sign him for under his value when they do.

If Prucha wasn't lying and it isn't about the money for him, then what does it matter if all 29 teams send offer sheets for him? He actually has to sign one for it to matter.

IF prucha wasnt lying.

vladmyir111 07-03-2007 05:17 PM

Well if he was lying that's some elite reverse psychology maneuver for the negotiating table with sather :)

lotus 07-03-2007 05:37 PM

yeah but Prucha is young and just doesn't seem like a material person. You get the feeling that he just really really wants to play hockey and doesn't want to have to deal with alot of hassle, like moving out west or something. I'm sure he'll be re signed.

As for Lundqvist.....i doubt any amount of money could pry him away from the endless chants of his name that he hears every home game. (and some away ones too!)

Avery...a bit more about the money, but if Elisha Cuthbert is a material persons girl then I guess i want a load of money too :biglaugh:. I could see him getting a deal around 1.8.

Shanny almost the same situation as Lundqvist and he's earned his share of money already, he doesn't seem the type to uh, take it to a casino and gamble it all away or anything. :/

Going back to Prucha, you gotta consider again that as long as Jagr is here, that could be a big big factor in his decisions.

BrooklynRangersFan 07-03-2007 06:36 PM

Okay, but if someone offers Prucha a sheet that would preclude us matching (say 3 years at $10MM+)... that means two #1s and change, right? I'd have to say I'd take that deal in a hearbeat. Don't see it happening, mind you, but I am moving Petr Prucha for draft picks of that quality, especially given the supposed depth of the next two drafts.

TheZherdev 07-03-2007 10:15 PM

this would be a great maneuver to pull by sather if shanny wants a little to much like 3-4 mill again. You sign him to a 2 year contract. Pay him for the fist year and then buy him out for the 2nd year, and the cap hit will be pretty small for the next 2 years. Everyone leaves happy.

I Am Chariot 07-03-2007 11:42 PM

Both will likely have to take a little less, but I have a gut feeling they are already all on the same page. If that infact turns out to be the case. This team is going to have some MIGHTY good Karma

NYRBlaznBure9 07-03-2007 11:51 PM

I think Avery's role is most important to this team, when compared to Shanny. Sure, Shanny is a leader and puts up points, but that is expendable with the additions of Gomez and Drury. Avery is a sonofa bi-ch, annoying as hell, and forces teams to make mistakes, mainly penalty wise..all while being a darn good scorer when needed. I want to see him locked up 3-4 years.

NYRchick 07-03-2007 11:55 PM

Shanny's leadership is invaluable to this team.He wants to be back,is willing to do anything to be back.Let's see how much Avery wants to be here. Don't get me wrong,I want him back too,but don't say Shanny's expendable. Other teams would kill to have Shanny, yet he wants to be HERE. It's Rangers or bust,to him. THAT'S loyalty.

NYRBlaznBure9 07-03-2007 11:59 PM

I think losing Avery would hurt this team overall more than Shanny's loss. Although, I'm not concerned with losing either of the two. Shanny has hinted he may take a pay cut to help the team, and Avery seems like he WANTS to be here.

Avery played last year on a one-year, $1.1 million contract he signed with Los Angeles on the eve of his arbitration hearing. Morris declined to say how much money Avery is seeking under his next contract, but it is believed to be a significant raise, likely between $1.75 million and $2.5 million.

"We've been going back and forth here for the better part of a month with nothing in the offing that is close to a deal, but both parties are continuing to try," Morris said.

Morris added that he and Avery will decide Thursday morning if filing for arbitration is their best option.

"When he was leaving L.A., the handpicked team was New York and I think it fits like a glove," Morris said. "He was playing very good hockey in L.A., and great hockey in New York. He is certainly not using this negotiation as a mechanism to leave New York, and wouldn't want to leave New York unless it kicks him out

I wouldn't go more than two years for Avery

Carlos Ranger 07-04-2007 06:26 AM

Thanks for that man.. finally an update on Avery, albeit not a great one, things still look good, I think it's just Slats taking his time.. everytime an agent makes a counter-offer it takes him days to respond to it..

Prucha25Graves988* 07-04-2007 01:56 PM

I like Avery and his smart ass little dick head attitude, but for that i dont like him. Just seems like he may be to much a pain in the ass. With tha i say 2 years at no more than 2mill-2.1 mill if he dont want well forget him let him go else where, NYR should then make a move for Aaron Asham, good replacement.

trueblue9441 07-04-2007 04:59 PM

i see shanny not signing til all the others that need to be signed are and then hell sign a low base salary contract plus easily attainable incentives.. just from the quotes ive read from him i think that could happen

If someone offers Prucha $1.99MM (a distinct possibility) which is more than twice his qualifier, that will only bring back a second round pick.

broadwayblue 07-04-2007 05:40 PM

I think Avery gets a 3 year deal for 6.25 to 6.5m.

GOMEZ+DRURY* 07-04-2007 06:12 PM

does anyone else think avery will be signing a similar contract to raffi torres 3 yrs/6.75 mil.? that sounds about right to me.

NYRBlaznBure9 07-04-2007 10:38 PM

Anything more than that is not neccessary.

Ola 07-05-2007 05:45 AM

Slats will sign everyone in order, 1. Lundqvist 2. Avery 3. Shanahan 4. Prucha.

Lundqvist is the most important one. When he is taken care of Slats knows where he stands and can start with Avery, Shanny and Prucha.
