Can the ducks win the cup next year? Two big factors: Niedermayer and Selanne. If not these two players resigning, is Schneider, maybe Bobby Ryan, and rest of original 2007 cup team enough to repeat?

Even without Scott and Teemu we will still be very strong contenders next season. I can't believe anyone would think otherwise. And while Schneider and Bertuzzi won't be able to "replace" Scott and Teemu, they are still great players to add to the team.

It's going to be a hell of a season this winter, I can't wait.

They are teh suck nowz, no chance at allz, sell everyone for 2nd rounders so we can trade for more enforcers.

The biggest thing isn't Selanne or even Niedermayer. It's hunger. If they want it bad enough, it's possible. If not, fuhgeddaboutit.

I think the team was even better than they showed last year. The fast start enabled the Ducks to coast midway through the season. This year, they'll probably have to fight a bit harder. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.

we can defend it. Most teams have improved especially the LA kings.

Yes they can and I believe that the Ducks will be a better team next season. Todd is going to have a monster season with 80 + points.

I don't think its pessimism. Its more like I don't want to say or do anything that will jinx this team's chance for next season.

You sound like me, after Selanne signed to return to the Ducks. Except, I was right...

I don't want to jinx the team, but it's also trying to be realistic. It's always hard to repeat, but if both Scott and Teemu don't come back, it's going to be even more difficult to repeat. Schneider and Bertuzzi will help fill the void, but they can't wholly replace the skill and leadership on and off the ice that Niedermayer and Selanne brought to the Ducks. Also, there was great chemistry on this team and those two were a big part of that.

that's ridiculous. they've got a damn good team lined up right now as it is without teemu and scott. if they get them back (or even just one) great, but i think there's a good chance they'll make it back to see stanley again this season regardless of whether scott and teemu return. At the very least, they are playoff bound, as long as they don't get cocky or lazy.

It`s always difficult to repeat, players tend to be less intense the year after and the other teams try extra hard to defeat you as well.

That said, if we can overcome the over confident factor, get outstanding goaltending from Jiggy we have a chance. Our d is still the leagues best and our forwards (three lines) are solid even without Selanne.

The first key - remember Carolina is make the playoffs - from then anything can happen....
