2007-08 Schedule Discussion Thread

The full schedule is set to be released around 2PM today. We already know the LA-Anaheim series in London is set to be the start of the season, but here's what's been leaked so far to the globe and mail.

Quote:

After the opening weekend in London, England on Sept. 29-30 with two contests between the Los Angeles Kings and the Stanley Cup-champion Anaheim Ducks, the next slate of games won't be until Oct. 3, when the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators renew their rivalry at the Air Canada Centre.

The home openers for the other Canadian teams include: Toronto at Ottawa, Oct. 4; Philadelphia Flyers at Calgary, Oct. 4; San Jose Sharks at Edmonton, Oct. 4; and the Carolina Hurricanes visit the Bell Centre in Montreal on Oct. 13 in a rematch of the Hurricanes-Canadiens in Raleigh, N.C. season opener on Oct. 3.
I'll post the full schedule soon as I can get it.

Hurray for getting to see which two Canes games I get to go to this year....at HSBC. :(

WoodGundy 07-11-2007 12:44 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing the schedule.

I just resigned from my job, effective Sept 30 and I won't be able to start a new one until Nov 1, due to work permit complications. I'm likely going to be looking to catch a few games somewhere in Oct...

But definitely not in Buffalo...

What the Faulk 07-11-2007 01:08 PM

Only 3 home and homes...1 spread out over 4 days. They're against the Thrashers, Panthers and Islanders.

And yet again, the Panthers are one of the last two teams the Canes play against this season.

Les Ouragans 07-11-2007 01:09 PM

8 in a row division games to close this year.

DaveG 07-11-2007 01:12 PM

17 sets of back-to-back games this year. This team ALWAYS seems to get the shaft on that :shakehead

caniacgirl12 07-11-2007 01:16 PM

We still get our New Years eve hockey game! I might have to come home for that. :)

And how many years now has our last game been against the Panthers???

The year before the lock out, the year after the lockout, last year and now this year? (I'm just going by memory so I may be wrong)

will there be beer involved?

(as if I have to ask)

caniacgirl12 07-11-2007 01:57 PM

Beer and a day trip to Niagara Falls before the game?

DaveG 07-11-2007 01:59 PM

I was actually thinking about making a stop at Greek Peak out by Ithica on the way up if I can make it.

Of course I have to make sure that I don't have any exams scheduled or anything like that this time. :(

Don't like the early extended road trip, kind of sets us up to have another slow start that we can't dig ourselves out of.

Anton Bubdobin 07-11-2007 02:11 PM

Jan 8 and Feb 12 (both Tuesdays :() might mean road trips from Maine to Boston. :)

Blame the state fair (even though it starts a bit after the road trip begins).

I don't know what this years slogan is but they need to nix that Be A Champion crap and go for "NO EXCUSES".

NO EXCUSES because Tanabe doesn't play for us anymore.

JustJoe2k5 07-11-2007 03:19 PM

"Still Here to Play, Still Here to Stay." They can even re-show that terrible commercial with Brind'Amour climbing the mountain.

Trapped?

If that's how you're going to put it..... :p:

;)

I am a fan of a few new slogans:

"We underachieved, watch us anyway"

"Playoffs ...where Top 10 in the conference isn't good enough"

"We lost David Tanabe"

"Joni Pitkanen to Carolinia (e5)"

"We're about to announce a major trade"

"Niclas Wallin ...now with more NTC"

ANTON HIS HOLINESS 07-11-2007 06:56 PM

"The No Slug Zone"

caniac247 07-11-2007 07:05 PM

Anyone else notice how we face the Habs 3 times in October. Nice way to space it out.

Glad we got the game after Thanksgiving back and glad to see we get our annual New Year's Eve game.

Should be a great 2 games to start the season off.

ANTON HIS HOLINESS 07-11-2007 07:09 PM

Sat Oct 20, 2007: Hurricanes vs. Flyers

The past two seasons, the Hurricanes have lost 5-4 on Oct. 20, which happens to be my birthday. In 05-06, Toronto beat us 5-4 in OT, and the Sabres beat us 5-4 in regulation in 06-07 (even though we scored that beautiful goal while killing off a 3-on-5)

Here's hoping it doesn't happen thrice

CioCio 07-12-2007 01:23 AM

So it looks like the teams we face that we didn't see last season are: Blue Jackets, Blues, Preds and the Blackhawks.

Citizen Cane 07-12-2007 08:40 AM

Yeah, its our turn to play the central this time around. Too bad its on the road. Guess Doug Weight won't get a chance to return to Carolina before he hangs them up.
