OT: Dispatch

Unbelievable show they put on tonight. Haven't heard the Garden rocking that loud since 1994. Anyone else getting the opportunity to see them this weekend?

NE College Daze

Really wish I was able to make it to New York to see them . . . just a great band - - Corrigan (aka Braddigan) grew up with a college friend of mine, and we would party alot with them - when they were One Fell Swoop. After hangin in a dorm room with em it was pretty mind blowing to be in the 100,000 plus crowd at their "final" show at Bostons Hatch Shell. Enjoy the MSG shows

Who was the special guest?

darrenturcotte#8 07-15-2007 11:19 AM

What time do you think they will come on tonight?

They had several natives of Zimbabwe doing introductory tribal dances and then they occassionally came back on stage to join on some songs.

If the show is scheduled to start at 8, they'll probably get on around 8:30 and end around 11:30. Three hours of pure happiness. :yo:

Great show on Sunday. Their guests were Zimbabwe Childrens Choir and Bongo Love. They also had Craigy D and a full horn section. Best version of the General ever.

Great musicians doing positive things. What a concept!

Speaking of shows I saw TOOL last night at PNC.

As always - they rock. :yo:

honestly, dispatch is a decent band, but over rated imo. kinda like OAR.

Overrated by who? They were pretty much shunned by the entire commercial music community. They're a band that's strength lies in lyrics and tight rhythms. Also, every member of the band plays lead, bass, and at least some drums. Throw in a ton of three part harmony and that's a pretty damn talented band.

And PLEASE don't drag OAR into this. That glorified beer commercial is a complete joke.

EXACTLY! not to mention they stayed independent...they did have offers to sign with a label, but chose not to...and look what they have done, i mean how many bands do you know will put on 3 concerts in 3 nights and play at least 25 songs each night!!!??? and they did it cuz they love to play and wanted to help a country in a lot of trouble! :yo: GO DISPATCH!!!!

i am not saying dispatch isn't talented at all...they are far more talented than OAR. i just don't think they are amazing. they are good, but lately i have been seeing their name everywhere, but when listening to the music, i don't understand their recent blow up. so when i say kinda like oar, i mean not musically, but they are getting a lot of attention i don't understand.

either way

I was going to go to that ****, Goldie. Couldn't muster up enough strength to hop on the train, much less a bus to puerto authoritio.

Coming from you Jay that's suprising. Anyway, how's life? I might get a big roller hockey game Sunday, let me know if you're down.

NYRangerfn09 07-20-2007 10:41 AM

The attention lately stems from four paths. One: They are an independent music act that managed to sell out a show at Madison Square Garden in a half hour! As well as two additional shows in about 23 minutes.

Second, all of the proceeds from the show are going to help the situation in Zimbabwe. They are musicians who used their success for a greater cause.

Third, with the access to so much music now through the internet Dispatch is being looked at because they are a band that gained their fans based mostly on live shows and internet buzz. They were the most downloaded independent act on Napster (which means they were dl'd a lot more than many signed acts as well).

Fourth, Dispatch guitarist/bassist/singer Chad (the guy with the fro') has a pretty successful group called State Radio that also attracts attention to his previous work.

They don't have any plans (as of yet) of doing any steady shows as a trio again, but they have mentioned doing further events together, be it sporadically, to help their cause.

Nich 07-20-2007 12:19 PM

honestly, i use to like them alot like 5 years ago....but since then eh....

but they are great guys from what i hear

Fletch 07-20-2007 01:38 PM

Hbnyc...

thanks for reminding me - I almost got tickets and decided that there was no way I was going to South Jersey to see a concert - not even for Tool. Waiting for October, when they usually come around and do larger venues, as well as NYC. Hopefully Maynard not harvesting his grapes at his Arizona vineyard at that time.

gaels22 07-20-2007 02:16 PM

how can you guys hate on oar, also nicknamed bro a.r.
