Breakthrough Goalies
So far this year who would you say are the breakthrough goalies?
Noronen, Kriprusoff, someone else? Who do you think of the breakthrough goalies you list will be the best in the long run? |

Raycroft's been real good

David Aebischer.
|
Tomas Vokoun
Robert Esche Martin Gerber |
Leighton hasnt been bad
|
It all depends on what you call breakthrough. I have yet to see any of those guys do it for a sustained period of time.

I guess I would define breakthrough as being the starter this year for the first time.
|
Aebischer, Raycroft, leighton, kiprusoff
|
Robert Esche has really showed how good he is this year and in a little while he is gonna be the starter of the Flyers if he isn't already.
|
McLennan and Cloutier and to a lesser degree, Nabokov and Boucher
|
David Aebischer
|
Boucher?

It's been, what, 37 games? And how many of these goalies have played all of their games?
To early to call... I mean remeber HF going nuts over Turco last year, then Giguere... |
Chris Osgood anyone?
|
Both Osgood and Cloutier (the funny masks) are having stunning seasons. Osgood we all knew he can do this, but he's been quite consistant this year, same goes for Cloutier.
I would say the real 'breakout goalie' of the year is probobly David Aebischer. I still don't like him that much, but I have to admit, he's doing far, far better than I thought he would. |

I don't think you can call him a breakout goalie for 2003, seeing how he's won the Vezina trophy before

Kiiprusoff....
It's a shame he's out nearly 2 months. Noronen has been pretty decent too. |
Vesa Toskala has been a breakthrough goalie from my point of view. I had always considered him too inconsistent to play in the NHL but he's proving me wrong. He's stuck behind Nabokov right now but he will become a starter in the NHL at some point in his career if he keeps playing like he has.

Since I get to watch Rangers games, Jussi Markkanen(sp?) has been real good for them. Maybe he isn't the "breakthrough" goalie of the year, that would be Kiiprusoff(sp?) but he should get some recognition.
