2008 draft

Does anyone know if Jared Staal is eligible for the 2008 draft? I'd like to see the Rangers draft a power forward or acquire a power forward prospect.

Has the youngest Staal improved over the past year? He is supposedly the least talented of the 4 brothers.

He had 3 points in 63 GP last season. And to answer your question, I think he's another year off.

Jared Staal could be an option in the future. I like the fact we got a decent 08 pick in the Cullen trade. I think it might be in order to move up and get a few high(er) picks in the apaprently deep 08 draft.

I think we should package some prospects like Immonen and get another 3rd pick for 08. Then, come nearer the draft, move these picks for a high 2nd or 1st... I definitely think we should try to move up in the 08 draft...

What does your second sentence have to do with the first? :help:

If there is a powerfoward I'd like to get in this draft, its Kyle Beach

Unless we do some serious trading up, if we're able to pick Kyle Beech none of us will be happy with the way this new season goes!!!:(

Saying that, i think the 3rd picked up in the Cullen deal might be acquired to help move up the draft...i hope so anyway.

So would I, but with the team they have besides the weak defense, there looking to ake some sort of a serious run,so i would expect to see NYR once again drafting between15-20, possibly 18-22, i think they will be among the NHLS top 10 teams.

I'm thinking with the additions of Bourret and Cherepanov at right wing that left wing might be the priority in the 2008 draft.

You can't really use the draft to address needs at a position as specific as wing. These kids take several years to develop to the point where they will make an impact on the team. By then other prospects can step in (Korpikowski) or we could deal other players or prospects (Montoya) for areas of need. If the best available player at our pick just happens to be a LW then great. If not, no worries about lacking prospects for that position.

are we so eager for anything hockey in the dog days of summer that we have to start talking about draft before the season even starts?
