See ya DP.

Digger12 07-26-2007 01:43 PM

All I can say is that the GM for my team has gone clinically insane. :biglaugh:

He's just gone bananas...

Gibsons Finest 07-26-2007 01:44 PM

Yeah, he's gone. Burke will never match this.

Hopefully the Oilers still suck this year, and we get a top-5 pick. Man, Colten Teubert would be awesome.

ManlyStanley* 07-26-2007 01:44 PM

haha, thats halarious

ManlyStanley* 07-26-2007 01:45 PM

parabola 07-26-2007 01:47 PM

Burke will probably match, but shouldnt... Thats great value for Penner and the contract is insane.

Where's the Mighty 07-26-2007 01:49 PM

Please someone tell Burke to take the picks and run

If we match then how much is Getzlaf worth in the near future?

Man Law!

MOENing 07-26-2007 01:57 PM

yea i'll take the picks

Question can dustin refuse it?

Talentless Practise* 07-26-2007 01:57 PM

Enjoy the craptastic Oiler team, Penner. I hope Getz or Moen beats him up next season.

Edit. Penner already signed the contract from Oilers. So i'd say it's unlikely he refuses it.

He already signed it or else we wouldn't be having this discussion

GLM 07-26-2007 01:59 PM

pens fan here. cant blame penner. that amount of cash anyone would sign. that sux for you ducks fans. dont think penner is worth that much, if im burke i let em roll

Crazyhorse 07-26-2007 02:01 PM

Lowe is creating alot of enemies, but i can't blame him. They need every above-average-player they can get.

not worth that much to the team right now

Talentless Practise* 07-26-2007 02:05 PM

There is actually a chance this nets us the first overall next year. It's not unreasonable to think the Oil may be in the lottery and then who knows? Just a thought..

Duck Off 07-26-2007 02:06 PM

Honestly I think the Ducks will match it. A little over 4 million a year for Penner is high, but not impossible. He will probably sign him for this. Next year Perry gets a little more, maybe the same thing. Then Getz at about 4.8-5 million a season.

Where's the Mighty 07-26-2007 02:07 PM

Just for giggles, say Tavares takes a case to the NHL and wins, thus allowing him to be in the 08 draft, we have the Oil's pick and land the #1 spot...

So Getz is hardly worth more than Penner? Youre joking right? Based on this, Getz is 7+ easily, heart and sould of this team dude.

Blue Dot 07-26-2007 02:11 PM

first, stop saying lowe is not making any friends. he is not paid by EDM to make friends. he is paid to make the team better at any cost. he can't get UFAs to sign there, GMs back out on trades with him right and left. so this is his last option. so be it. its allowed by the rules so the crybaby teams and GMs need to suck it up. they might be in the same boat some day.

that said.

if penner keeps improving and gets more ice, that contract will seem like a bargain in 2 years.

plus, the oil can always move penner later to recover prospects and picks.

i think this is a good move for EDM. i think ANH should keep penner myself and cut salary elsewhere. but after picking up bertuzzi they likely won't.

so ANH gets bertuzzi who will be lucky to play in 50 games and they might lose penner who is a young and rising stud.

terrible IMO. ANH could have sealed the young core and brought up ryan at the RW. tuzzi is already costing the ducks.

Soundwave 07-26-2007 02:13 PM

The Oilers couldn't even get better than a no.6 pick last season, and that was basically completely tanking the entire last 1/3 of the season and an initial 2/3rds of the season with an AHL defense.

Hell, an injury to Pronger or Bertuzzi and Anaheim's 1st rounder (which goes to Edmonton) could very easily end up higher than Edmonton's.

Where's the Mighty 07-26-2007 02:14 PM

Hey thanks for dropping by and not know what youre talking about.

Lowe is killing the market for FA, he's driving ever FA price up for the coming years, bad for hockey.

Penner is a nice player, but in no way worth over 4 mil per season.
