OT: Jagr gambling (again)?

I've found this article about JJ on one of the russian hockey websites, it is in russian.

http://www.allhockey.ru/nhl/news/8002/05-08-2007/

here is a rough translation of the article

Yaromira Of yagra suspect of the game on the totalizator 05.08.2007 22:ya"Vo the time of exhibition tournament on golf Jagr Team Golf Tour 2007, that passed to Czech in the place Konopishte, Yaromir Of yagr several times was distracted to the telephone conversations, in course of which he in the English called different combinations of the numbers. Tabloid "shaft" assumed that, most likely, thus Olympic champion nagano counted on totalizator, reports television channel "sport". At the end of 90th Yagr he already was fascinated by igromaniyey (gambling addiction?) and according to the unofficial information left in the casino Of las-Vegasa of approximately 15 million dollars. Yagr then was justified: "4 never he indicated that 4 saints. Bad things mastered me. But all this already in the past ".

Does anyone know what this "totalizator" is? Online gambling website? I've heard before stories of some football (soccer) players in Europe being fined or suspended from their teams for using this "totalizator".

Personally I am not judging JJ in any way, it's his personal life. Just thought this was somewhat curious, during these boring summer days :)

So long as Jaromir plays great for the Rangers and this rumour doesnt effect his or the teams performances its his money and he can do with it what he likes.

Besides, if he gambles enough away then he'll want an extra yr or 2 in NY to earn more!!! ;)

Until i see this rumour confirmed or 100% evidence i wont worry about it. Let Jagr enjoy his off season!..

NYR1724 08-08-2007 07:17 AM

as long as he doesn't gamble on hockey, I do not really care.

Jordan gambles too ;)

towely 08-08-2007 07:33 AM

the way i see it jagr is under contract with a nhl team in the united states and if he is back home or even outside of the usa for that matter what he does has no effect on the laws or his conduct here.

plus i say who cares anyway if he is a ref then we have a problem but being a player on the tail end of his career that wants to go out winning i highly doubt his gambling is gonna dictate the outcome of a game he is playing in.

plus i would like to add without changing the topic look at pete rose sure he bet on baseball and was a gambling addict but rose was a winner when he played as well as a winner when he coached so i dont think rose was throwing games to win money.
he was probably betting on his team to win and if thats the case i see nothing wrong with that.

its only a problem when the player is betting on his team to lose.

No, he doesn't. (Jordan, that is). And he doesn't drink either!:teach:

I'll assume that's sarcasm.

But back to the topic, who cares if Jagr gambles? Just as long as he's not putting bets on NHL games.

Nobody cares even if he is betting on hockey games (that are being played in Europe).

And which Jordan did you mean?

A source, nonetheless. One of the better websites .RU actually. There are very few quality sites in russian (even of this quality).

Again, this is not a rumor and not even newsworthy. Like I said, just something curious during these boring summer days... It's almost 5PM here in Moscow, so...

Exactly what I said, no one cares as long as it's not on NHL games.

And the Jordan I meant was Michael Jordan.

good thing you said that, cuz I thought you meant Jeremy Jordan, the guy who did some songs on the 90210 soundtrack. :sarcasm:

he'll have wagered on 'Broadway parade' running in the 16:00. Its being ridden by a Mr Renney and has ticker tape all over it! they say its gonna look good once it has crossed the winning line!!!

Don't create a thread based on a translation thats not even correct english.

bogans 08-08-2007 09:19 AM

I hope he placed a enormous bet on the Rangers to win the Cup this year!

BJo 08-08-2007 09:21 AM

It shouldn't matter what he does in his personal life as long as he's not betting on hockey. Just cause he plays hockey doesn't mean he's restricted from betting on baseball or on casino games.

Also, the more he loses the more motivation it gives him on the ice to perform so that he can earn another big contract. Look at Darren McCarty. You don't think that guy wishes he could score 40 goals and earn a huge contract to pay off his gambling debts.

BobMarleyNYR 08-08-2007 09:29 AM

:biglaugh: Yes!

These Russian translated Jaromir of Jagr stories are always khilarious!

Language is fun, and we all know English is no. 1! :sarcasm:
