Power Rankings - First Page Life Is Over

Blue Jackets
This Week 19 Last Week 15

Quote:

We've heard this story before: the Blue Jackets need more than Rick Nash and Nikolai Zherdev scoring. Right now, though, they are the only two Jackets with more than four points. Youngsters like Gilbert Brule and Dan Fritsche should be part of the solution, but neither one has even registered a point.
Key Injuries: None.

just kidding everyone. I didn't really hang myself.. 15 is generous, but probably pretty accurate right now. We'd look like a beast in the East.

BlueJackets
Last Week 27 This Week 26
Quote:

The Jackets are playing some tight team defense, which is the biggest reason they are .500 so far. Michael Peca has been dominant in the faceoff circle too, winning 20 of his past 29 draws.

Nordique 10-22-2007 02:41 PM

9th in the West according to TSN, that is pretty accurate I think. CBS Sportsline must hate Hitch :)

Robert 10-22-2007 02:52 PM

After last night ya still think Vancouver is 20 and Columbus is 19....I don't think so....

Hilliardsw55 10-22-2007 03:07 PM

I don't pay attention to power rankings..It's not where everyone THINKS we should be..It's where we end up at the end of the season. :yo:

Nordique 10-22-2007 03:36 PM

Every system is flawed. I like power rankings though because(unless I'm mistaken) they take into account your record, and the record of the teams you've lost to and beaten.

Its quantitative, not based on specu'nalysis.

Both Vancouver and Columbus are .500, we are likely ahead of them because of their loss to LA. In contrast all of our losses are to .500+ teams.

:handclap: its a beautiful thing

blahblah 10-29-2007 12:48 PM

woot, take a picture... Never thought TSN would move us up that quick. It's nice not being the whipping boy of the NHL for the moment...

Here's to hopefully being in their top 12 or so all year.

Nordique 10-29-2007 12:51 PM

sportsline hasn't put up theirs yet...remember they had at 26 last week :shakehead

I find it interesting that they mention our shots on goal are down overall this year. Wasn't it last year(under Gallant) we set new record lows for SOG in a game?

This year we are typically outshooting that mark in the first 10 minutes of a game, it seems like.

Nordique 10-29-2007 02:43 PM

Sportsline puts us at 15. They put SJ at 9, interesting.

Coach Ken Hitchcock's magic or at least his method is sinking in with the Blue Jackets. Helping matters is the league's best penalty killing unit and four shutouts from Pascal Leclaire.

Not sure which list you have, but in the link it has Dallas 9 and SJ 17

We are better than the Sabres an probably the Blues....and, we just beat SJ, how can we be under them?

Same thing I am seeing. They were also nice enough to say this about the Blues coming in at 11th...

Not much has gone right so far for the Sharks. Patrick Marleau and Jonathan Cheechoo have scored only a pair each and the team has allowed nearly twice as many goals as it has scored.

I think they're factoring in the shutouts in downgrading us, with the logic that "they can't keep this shutout pace up forever and once it's over, they'll revert to the norm".

Truth be told, I tend to think the same. I was happy to see us win the last game *without* a shutout. We still have a losing record in games in which we give up a goal (2-3-0-1) and I have to be honest in saying that that worries me since we aren't getting a lot of scoring. I doubt Pascal is capable of 40+ shutouts in a season.

Insightful info from CBS. :sarcasm:
