Vandermeer

I like this kid, why isn't he up with the big club? How has he done in the minors?

He is a 5/6 guy in the NHL and will stick up for others and drop the gloves.
If only he was in Theriens body - he would be a monster.
I wish he got more time - when his confidence is intact he makes good plays, but when a couple of turnovers gets you sent down to the AHL, well how can he play while looking over his shoulder every game?

I agree, it takes time for young d-men to develop but i don't think sending him to the minors every time he has a bad game is to good for the confidence!

The organizational design, where the parent and farm club are located so close to one another, permits them to call him up with the frequency they do. If he plays 26 more games NHL games, they won't be able to send him down unless he clears waivers, so they have options. Were he boarding a flight everytime this happened, I'd be inclined to agree it was having a deeper effect. As it is, he's just walking across the parking lot.

I think they've been pretty fair with Vandermeer.

Agreed. I like Vandermeer too, but it isn't like the Flyers are starved for depth defensively right now. If they need him, he's right across the parking lot.

They also have Seids and had Woywitka so it's not like he's their only NHL ready D-prospect.
