The return of Tomas "I will never be a backup in this league" Vokoun

crossxcheck 10-27-2007 08:26 AM

It's definitely going to be interesting hearing "Vokooooooooooun...Vokoooooooun...Vokoooooooooooou n...you suck!"

PeterAngelo 10-27-2007 08:48 AM

Hoping for once to be happy with 5 pucks finding their way past Vokoun. Preds 5 Panthers 2.

Still no official word on whether he starts tonight. As of 9AM, no morning skate either for the Panthers.

Stars-Preds 10-27-2007 11:51 AM

Vokoun is seriously one of the classiest guys in the league. It sucks that we had to trade him in his prime.

We didn't trade him in 03-04 ;)

ratmanfu 10-27-2007 01:03 PM

After a horrid start, Vokoun has become pretty solid for the Panthers.

Unfortunately, his team still lets him out to dry on occasion, and hasn't supported his most solid efforts with much goal production.

I hope tonight is a tight, competitive match. :handclap:

golfmade 10-27-2007 01:08 PM

Meh I'm still not happy we traded him and I'd never do the goalie chant to Vokoun even though he is now playing for a different team.

Yeah. This is the guy that never wanted to leave Nashville.....

Basher 10-27-2007 02:21 PM

I won't be chanting against him - not with the circumstance in which he left. If he pulled a Dunham, I'd let him have it. I hope he gets a warm welcome and if he plays, I'd rather not hear the "you suck" but no doubt I will. I'll be in a suite for this one, living it up haha ;)

Pred303 10-27-2007 02:44 PM

second hand word is, is that ellis starts tonight... not really surprising if true of course...

I totally agree - there's no way in hell that Vokoun deserves the "you suck" chant.

Top_Scorah19 10-27-2007 04:07 PM

Any official word that Ellis starts tonight?

handtrick 10-27-2007 04:11 PM

Hordichuk out with a broken toe....
Gelinas still out....
Peverley called up [wish it were Pihlstrom, though]

What is the consensus on the goaltending situation? Does anybody really think its up for grabs?

volzok 10-27-2007 05:15 PM

I am not saying he doesn't deserve it, but I am quite surprised its Ellis tonight. Maybe Trotz doesn't want Mason to put a bunch of pressure on himself playing against Vokoun and then play poorly. The starting position maybe up for grabs.

I think I agree with you, but it is a sad situation. Your number 1 shouldnt be so mentally fragile that he cant handle big games, thats when you know you need :help:.

I also, could never chant against TV.

I agree, I am surprised that Mason didn't beg to play in this game. Maybe he did and Trotz said no, I guess we won't know till after the game.

predhead1 10-27-2007 10:14 PM

There is an extremely poor lack of communication/understanding between Ellis and his dmen. They have clashed for pucks on several occasions - I don't know if this is a product of Ellis developing in the Dallas system and tending to handle the puck more, but something needs to be done quickly, or we're going to see some easy giveaways before too long.

Mason emphatically said that he wished he was playing in tonights game during the 3rd period.

Enoch 10-27-2007 11:26 PM

Its too bad Mason didn't get to play against the Panthers, especially considering this is an out of conference game. That said, good performance by the boys tonight, and a solid effort by Ellis again. A 5 on 3 goal and a Penalty shot goal....how can you be upset by those?

Yes, it was good to hear him say that. So I am wondering if Trotz didn't think he could handle the pressure or am I reading too much into it and he just felt that Ellis deserved the start?

Either way, solid win tonight. This team has played much better in their own zone. While there is still improvement to be bad, I agree it is hard to complain with their performance.

I think the difference the last few games offensively is that they are throwing the puck at the net and guys are crashing and picking up gritty goals. I think that is what we expected coming into the season. We need to see guys like Fiddler and Smithson pitching in like they have, every once in a while for this team to be as good as they could be. Great play by Bonk on the game winner. All that traffic, just flip it. Great job by Smithson getting wiped out so his butt could score the GW:D

Bourdon 10-28-2007 12:58 AM

How did Ellis play? I'm thinking about keeping him for awhile, since Backstrom was injured today. Don't worry, I also have Harding.

That penalty shot was a gift, just saw the highlights on NHLN. Puck was never covered in the crease.
