Pending UFA defensemen

how would u rank the following possibly available ufa dmen (assuming their teams fail to qualify for the playoffs) and which team do u think is most likely to acquire them?

alexei zhitnik
bob boughner
glen wesly
keith carney
sean hill
todd simpson
eric cairns
marc bergevin
brian leetch
jason smith(i think he is ufa, not 100% sure) if he is a rfa use lyle odeline

example: my choices

1) brian leetch: i think he'll stay with the rags, but if they are out i could see him in st. louis
2) alexei zhitnik: colorado
3) keith carney: toronto
4) bob boughner: toronto
5) glen wesley: ottawa
6) sean hill: new jersey
7) todd simpson; vancouver
8) eric cairns: boston
9) marc bergevin: st louis
10) lyle odeline: montreal

I could see Toronto going after Glen Wesley again. He was a good fit for them and played very well with McCabe.

I think Ottawa will try to land Boughner or Carney...ok it's more on the lines I hope that Ottawa will try to land them

leetch
carney
zhitnick
wesley
boughner
hill
odelein
simpson
bergevin
cairns

Leetch aint going anywhere. Predicting where the other end up is extremely difficult, especialy with the CBA coming up. For instance, if there were a cap, I don't think Toronto could afford any of these guys. Except maybe for Cairns and Bergevin, but they would have no interest in those two.

zhitnik - i think stlouis or vancouver could work IMO, colorado is iffy, maybe dallas
boughner - again i think vancouver could benefit, and ottawa/jersey for sure
wesley - toronto i think could be interested again, ottawa/vancouver/dallas/tampa
carney - any team in the playoffs IMO
hill - i don't think he'll move, if he does, i say to tampa/atlanta/jersey.. eastern
simpson - don't see much interest unless all these guys move around, maybe detroit
cairns - see simpson, pretty last ditch effort, maybe boston, but who cares
bergevin - what?
leetch - won't move
smith - i don't think he'll move

boston doesn't need a pylon like cairns. if so, they would've kept sean brown around.

Krapot is available for whatever you want

Way too early for this, but Leetch isn't going anywhere, and Hill isn't going anywhere. For some season Hill can only play well in Carolina, so I doubt he'll go anywhere

Fedz 01-17-2004 05:52 PM

1) Brian Leetch: New York
2) Keith Carney: Vancouver
3) Jason Smith: Edmonton
4) Alexei Zhitnik: Colorado
5) Todd Simpson:
6) Eric Cairns: New York Islanders
7) Glen Wesley: Retirement
8) Sean Hill: Retirement
9) Bob Boughner: San Jose
10) Marc Bergevin: Nobody.

I hear that. I think that the Muck will make a big push for these 2 and acquire one of them, hopefully Carney.

The Maple Leafs will get rid of a few pricey contracts this offseason.

Renberg, $2,000,000
Reichel, $3,750,000
Marchment, $2,000,000
Domi, $2,000,000

That's about $8,000,000 free'd up.

I could care less which one he gets as long as he manages to take hnidy out of our top 6 right now.

LaVal 01-17-2004 07:42 PM

i'd love to see Carney in Vancouver at the deadline.

I agree, I like hnidy has a depth guy who comes in when someone is out, but not has an everyday guy. The physical aspect of the game that he brings to the rink is nice, but the consistent gaffs he makes takes away from that. A good veteran 5-6 combo of Curtis L. and Carney/Boughner would be nice in April
