Not exactly Habs news, but we are battling these two teams for a playoff spot. The B's won 5-2 over the Rags today, in the first of a two-day home and home series. Thornton and Lindros fought, with Big Joe sustaining a cheekbone fracture/possible eye injury. Should be a dandy in the Big Apple tomorrow night.
Here's a part:
The Bruins resembled the teams from its 1970s heyday for another reason - by picking up 35 penalty minutes and two game-misconducts during a 2:29 stretch midway through the second, which started after Eric Lindros knocked Thornton out of the game with a punch to his left eye.
Thornton sustained a small fracture in his left cheekbone. He was treated at the hospital and released but is not expected to play Tuesday night against the Rangers in New York, the Bruins said.
Thornton went to hospital following the hit for X-rays on his eye, and Kasparaitis did not return. Both teams expect a heated game Tuesday when they meet again at Madison Square Garden.
"Our guy is going to have to miss some games because of his knee. Another guy (Nedved) might have a concussion,'' New York coach Glen Sather said. "They didn't have to go to that extreme.''
Lindros really "clocked" Thornton in that fight, his eye looked aweful. Therrian is suspended indefinitly until he meets with Collie Campbell because of the knee on Kasper (poetic justice for one of the league's culprits of the same?), he's gone for a few for because when you meet Collie its for 3 or more.
The more these two teams beat each other up, the better it is for us. ;)
Wasn't it McGillis on Kasparitis?
