Outdoor Rink-need help

Hi folks,

This past weekend I setup an outdoor rink and when I thought the slope was even it of course wasn't. Basically, what has happened is I have 3 corners of my rink that no water is gathering to freeze and is running down to the middle of the rink.

What is the best way to fix this? Should I add slush and lay it even with what is already frozen.

My daughter is dying to learn how to skate and play hockey against me. She told me she will destroy me. She is 5, not sure where she got the trash talking from but I like it. ha!

Need help.

Im no expert but enough water and it should all level out? maybe dig down the high corners.

Do you use a liner?
From what you describe, if the water collects in the middle, it souldn't run over the boards. So keep building it up and eventually you'll have water and ice in the corners.
In my experience, the key is to build up the ice and unfortunately there is no shortcut to that. You have to put down a leyer of water let it freeze and do it again and again. I find that with a couple of nice cold days when I can get out and put down some water every hour I get a nice sheet of ice.
Putting down too much water will create shell ice and it will crack.
It truly is a exercise in patience ;)
Good luck.

Tell us how you are building it. The only way to make it work is to find a way to build up the low end. You will have thicker ice at the deep end. The use of a liner makes this a lot easier. You can use snow, but remember that if you have a thaw, your toast as your support just melts away. You need a liner and sidewalls to hold the water if you have a melt.
