baking used skates
 
Here's the deal.

I picked up a used pair of CCM tacks custom fit. These things are pretty old school, they're the ones that came with the TUUK custom chassis and they are pretty well used but they were a great deal at 25 dollars.

The problem is I believe the previous user of my skates had inherently bigger feet (save length) and I have a slight problem with blisters sometimes. It's hard to tie them tight as well because the skates are a bit stiff...

Is it okay to bake these? and if so how? These are at least 10-15 years old.

I wouldn't advise it. I don't believe they would shrink, and I think they would surely break down if you did it, and then you will never get them tight, and maybe even a blow out? Pretty hard to gauge without seeing the skates. Did those have the gel that hardens after they're heated the first time?

If you are having trouble with pressure in a specific area, or areas, you might be able to have them stretched a bit in the area while spot heating them (carefully, with a heat gun), and then wear thick socks. I don't know. Just throwing the idea out there. I'm no shop pro. And I'm not familliar with your skates. And a shop would be set up with a stretcher, and hopefully a little know-how...


... but either way, you only have $25 bucks to lose right? And then you can let us all know how it went, and we'll all be a little bit smarter for it. ;)

I guess I meant that I've still got some room around the ankles. I didn't think baking them would shrink it per se, but perhaps loosen them up so I can retighten them and maybe they will mold to my feet a little better. Either way its only 25 bucks to lose but I'd rather do my homework first as I'm not in much of a position to get new skates because i'm having problems with that thing called money...

Same information applies to used skates. Baking won't improve anything and could make things worse.
