J. P. Dumont

I think he would be a great fit w/ Dubinksy and is exactly the type of player that the Rangers need. He can score, has size, has some playoff experience (27 pts in 36 games), and is a decent playmaker. He is a UFA at season's end and will only be 30. So we could even re-sign him if we wanted to, to help ease losing Straka or Shanny or both at season's end.

So basically its a vet who isn't too old and probably won't come back to Nashville next year. Nashville probably won't make the playoffs and probably will be looking to unload.

Would you want him? What do you think it would take to land him?

Prucha, Liffiton and a 2nd?
Cally, and a first?
Prucha, Hossa, Liffiton/Baranka and a 3rd?
Dawes and Cally and a 2nd?

I don't think he will be extremely expensive, but you never know.

HeaveHo94 01-02-2008 10:39 PM

I would...

I would trade him for Hossa... 52 goals in the last 2 1/2 years, makes $2.5 Mill this year...And another Islander 1st rounder that never played for them.

i would love it if the rangers grabbed him....except he would play on the second line because he played in buffalo so he and drury know eachother...allowing avery to play on the third line.......

jagr-gomez-straka
shanahan-drury-dumont
avery-dubinsky-prucha
hossa-betts-callahan

that is a stacked offensive unit on paper....plus dumont has played very well in the playoffs in his career from what i remember

Not every pick can work out like Lundmark or Jessiman...:sarcasm:

RangersFan 01-03-2008 12:36 AM

I like his game as well. I would give up any combination of players including Prucha, Dawes, Callahan, Hossa, and picks not including a 1st...

Did he and Drury play on the same line?

Also who would you have traded as you still have Prucha, hossa and cally in that lineup?

You guys are seriously overrating Dumont. This is a guy that Buffalo let walk away and you want to give Prucha, Callahan or Dawes up for him??? I don't like it at all.

What has Prucha, Callahan, or Dawes done for us lately? Actually what has Cally or Dawes done at all so far period? To go for a cup run you have to make some trades and give up some younger players. The 94 team did it and nobody is really complaining about who we gave up now.

Plus its not like these players are going to turn into star players, and we have a deep prospect pool. Dumont would be a solid 3rd liner and an upgrade to any of those three players.

The difference is this team is not the 1994 team. We are 0-4-1 against the West and 1-3 vs. Ottawa this season. That doesn't bode well. We are not playing well against the best competition that the league has to offer.

I wasn't happy with trading Doug Weight for Esa Tikkanen in 1993 or Tony Amonte for Matteau and Noonan in 1994 but in retrospect you cannot complain about those trades because we ended up winning the Cup in '94 but trades like that led to the Rangers to the barren years of 1997-2004. Don't be short sighted and forget that we are two years removed from the longest stretch of postseason-less hockey in franchise history.

I don't think the Rangers will panic. I think if there is someone that they can add who will improve the team they will do so but trading Prucha, Cally or Dawes right now makes no sense. This team is offensively challenged now, what will happen when Jagr, Straka and Shanny are gone? Who is going to step up and move onto the first two lines if we don't have these young guys around? I think trading for a guy like Dumont who is going to be a UFA after the season anyway makes no sense right now.

Do you honestly think that Prucha, Dawes, or Cally will carry this team? B/c I don't whatsoever. I think that they are role players at best. I can't believe you think that the Rangers are going to be good w/ these players on the first and second lines. Their will be a couple years of bottom feeding after Straka and Shanny and Jagr are gone unless we make some big signings/trades. We don't have any offensive can't miss star prospects (Chery is closest thing) but he will probably be 3-4 years away from making a huge impact. The fact is the rangers while having good prospects don't have any prospects that will blow you away. They are a bunch of 3rd line prospects w/ a couple of borderline 1st and 2nd liners. This will be the best team the Rangers field in the next 3 yrs. We should go for it now and dumont will be a big upgrade over Pruchs, Cally or Hossa.

I agree with most of this. Everyone talks about how deep our prospect pool is, and how Bourrett or Moore should be playing in the NHL, etc, but I'm not seeing it. I don't think any of our prospects are that good. Like the above post says, they're a bunch of 3rd liners.

Bourret and Anisimov, at least, reasonably project as top-6 players.

clmetsfan 01-03-2008 10:28 AM

Prucha, Dawes, and Cally have combined for 10 goals and 7 assists in 81 games this season. And half of those goals have come from Dawes, who offers zilch on the defensive end. There are a hundred players in the NHL who can give you more than he does.

Blueshirt Brawler 01-03-2008 11:08 AM

I'm not saying guys like Dawes, Prucha and Callahan are going to carry us for the next ten years but trading them off for underachievers like Dumont makes no sense either. If you are going to trade future 20 goal scorers for a player you may as well try to get someone who can play on the first or second line. Dumont is not a top six forward is all I'm saying.

What makes you think Cally and Dawes are 20 goal scorers? Cally has 1 goal this year so far, Dawes is invisible most games, and Prucha w/o Jagr really hasn't scored much either. Also they are all small. This team needs to add some size and grit to it. Dumont isn't the biggest guy but he is 6'1" 205lbs. (which by the way is bigger than all three of those players). I think you are underrating Dumont and overrating Calley, Dawes, and Prucha. Although people overrating Rangers on this board is understandable since it is a Rangers board, I try not too.

I'm not going to argue with what you're saying about Dawes and Callahan, but Prucha at least is a proven commodity. He's been struggling this year, obviously, but until the past two weeks everyone else has been as well. What I'm saying has nothing to do with the trade proposals, just taking a issue a bit with having Prucha lumped in with Cally and Dawes.

He's proven w/ Jagr on the PP thats it. He isn't anything at ES or w/o Jagr.

DontStepanMe 01-03-2008 12:09 PM

And also you have to shed cap. Prucha is wasting $1.6 mil. So he is the logical fit. Also teams want better and more proven players so Pruchas trade value is more than Cally or Dawes, or Hossa so you wouldn't have to give up more players or higher picks. People really have to stop the love affair w/ Prucha or certain players and just think about the actual trade itself and would it benefit both teams.

The majority of his career goals have been ES. And he's scored on the PP when Jagr wasn't out there. Call him a PP specialist maybe, but he's not dependent on Jagr.

Not disagreeing with you. Again, I just take issue with people saying Prucha isn't established.

Let's hope Prucha doesn't become Joffrey Lupul.
