Tootoo is a little punk!

What a dirty player this guy is, first he goats Iggy into fighting with him, which is fine, then he gets a slight edge in the fight, which is fine, but when Iginla is down, he throws a quick punch to the face which cut Iginla. Definately not fine. You just don't hit a player when he is down. Then he gets up like he won a gold medal, even though his team is losing 4-0. One of the Predator veterans needs to take little Jordan aside and give him a talking to, me thinks.

Anybody else agree?

yeah, could someone tell the little guy not to bully on the much bigger cheapshot artists?

kruezer 01-23-2004 12:32 AM

Hey I missed this game (second one in a row, Yikes) what was it like in general? I see Kobasew fought, that somehow really makes me happy, it just needed to happen, but anyway, ya what happened?

No.

Tootoo plays with fire and emotion at all times and does not back down from anybody. He's not looking to injure other players (like Zhitnik for example) but makes them pay physically and tries to be a pain to play against. Nothing wrong with that. It's not the first time a punch is thrown after the guy went down and can probably be attributed to the heat of the moment. I don't think he pounded on him 'til his eyes came out of their sockets no?

edit: typo

Uhh, didn't Oliwa start punching his man when he was on the ice, too?

The answer is yes. This is very common.

Vyse64 01-23-2004 12:39 AM

boo hoo, same thing happened when Tootoo and Chimera fought last week, Toootoo pushed down Chimera, but Chimera and Tootoo was still throwing punches, get used to it

fullmetalninja 01-23-2004 12:40 AM

Tootoo punked out Mark Bell, after Bell'r challenge him to drop em and Tootoo said no. Bell turned away and Tootoo jumped him. Bell was irate, and said he was looking forward to seeing him again.

But worse for Tootoo is that Vandy also was quite pissed about the whole mess. And Vandy is one of those unique toughguys that is barely 6'. If that game gets outta hand, I'm guessing that the cheap shots will be comin from the hawks.

I love to watch the kid play... but he's gonna get it one day. Sure will be fun watching Tootoo and Ruutu battle for the next several years. Ruutu to me hits harder- and doesn't charge as much. There just isn't as much hype about his hitting(just his lack of scoring..).

Anyways, The preds play the hawks in Chicago. Don't be surprised if Busshy goes after him. And if that happens, Tootoo we'll be in some trouble because Busshy just throws em. I do like the fact that Tootoo will go though... although he's gonna get the $hit knocked out of him one of these times.....

I don't condone what Tootoo did, but it's really not that uncommon. I just really don't like that fact it was Iginla involved in the fight.

Apparently those two were jawing off in the hallway to the dressing rooms. Iginla was ticked.

Either way, i love the passion Tootoo brings to the game. He should be careful though.. he's going to get his butt handed to him one day.

this summer- "Tootoo is an exciting player, but he's going to get killed in his first game in the NHL for his stunts"

one week in- "I like Tootoo, but a few more games of this and someone is going to teach him a lesson"

halfway- "Tootoo is good for the fans in Nashville, someday someone is going to catch up with him"

the fight came about because tootoo laid out someone...I'm not sure who, though I believe it was Lombardi. About 10 seconds later, Iginla crosschecks Tootoo as he's skating up the ice with his back turned. Tootoo falls, get's up...jaws with Iginla...and the course of events that leads to the dropping of gloves is set.

It was McAmmond, and Iginla wanted to fight him 'cause he thought it was a dirty check by Tootoo, at least thats the impression I got from the game reports.

At the end of a long and successful career- " Tootoo was lucky but someday he's going to get hit by a car"

At Tootoo's funerals (his life ending at 92yo in the hands of his mistress)- "Tootoo had a pretty incident free life but someday they'll build a casino over this cemetery, you'll see"

Ol' Dirty Chinaman* 01-23-2004 01:14 AM

This was obviously Iginla's fault.

When he fell to the ice the onus was on him to get his face out of the way of Tootoo's fist.

I Am Ziggy Palffy 01-23-2004 01:15 AM

give him a break...he only gets 1 shift per period...let him go out and hit someone because he sits for the other 19:30 min....he must have a lot of energy built up when his coach calls on him

i cant stand him either...but if he played on your team, you would be excited too whenever he steps out on the ice...especially becuase you have to wait 15 min before it happens

Facts of the actual incident aside, ONE crosscheck to get a guy to fight makes someone a cheapshot artist?? Jesus, Trottier is right, the NHL is WAY over-sanitized if thats the standard we're holding guys too nowadays.

i wasn't speaking in a general sense, like it's a habitual thing. i don't watch enough flames games to know whether iginla does this sort of thing often or not. by the same logic, does this ONE punch while iglina was down make tootoo a "dirty little punk?" not in my opinion.

Tootoo did the same thing to Mike Danton earlier this year, but I have no problem with that. It used to be done a lot more in scraps? I just dont want to hear Tootoo or Preds fans ***** when someone does it to him. :dunno:

You do understand that you will have to provide several examples to call someone a "cheap shot artist", do you? The word "artist" actually stands for something in the label.

Otherwise, that's just one cheap shot. Unless you consider a large portion of NHLers cheap shot artists.

no, but thank you for making me aware of the etiquette involved with labeling. also, i want to thank you for overlooking the very idea on which this thread was started...that an isolated incident(as far as we know) somehow makes someone a "dirty little punk."

I hear what you're saying...knowing guys who played against Tootoo in junior, and having read a few threads this season complaining about Tootoo (rightly or wrongly), it wasn't the first time I'd heard "punk" and "Tootoo" used in the same sentence. Can't say the same for Iginla and "cheap shot artist", which is why it caught my attention.

Just seems like the way its gone around here lately..."I love rough and tumble hockey, until its one of my guys on the receiving end...then its dirty". Not you in particular, but it just seems like anytime something remotely unsavory happens, a thread is created and the fans from each side square off. Seems rather pointless.

and i agree. i wasn't going to make an "iginla is a cheapshot artist" thread. i understand that this sort of thing is part of the game, and most people accept that. i was just offering an explanation as to why tootoo might have been especially angry.
