Yeah, I'm a goofy homer.

Ok it wasn't funny but Matthias has had a sub par year and Kuba has finally realised his potential, I think they got this one right.

Sub par year? Ohlund is having a career year! He has surpassed Jovanovski as the #1 defensman on the team.

His potential is the worst +/- on his team?

I think Ohlund should go to the all star game again, but I rather have him staying home and getting some rest. Having Kuba in the all star lineup will make Minny fans more happy.
I think Peter Forsberg should have been starting centre instead of Modano, now I can't see Naslund and Forsberg on the same line again!

Hyped 01-24-2004 09:21 PM

I'm gonna back up the Canuck fans here. Ohlund has had a very good year this year. he's been contributing at both ends of the ice. I'd say at the 1/3 point of the season, he was a Norris candidate. He's slowed down a bit, but he's still very consistent game in and game out. He'd be on my all-star team.

But also, Kuba has had a very good year too. I don't know if I'd want to choose between the two, but if I had to I'd probably go with Ohlund this year...

AndersSWE 01-24-2004 09:24 PM

My three picks:

Milan Hejduk
Mathias Íhlund
Peter Forsberg  - rumors in Sweden tells that he wanted to rest himself, instead of participating...

The Mars Volchenkov 01-24-2004 09:26 PM

Nobody has mentioned Gonchar yet??

ville_tx 01-24-2004 09:26 PM

David Aebischer was snubbed fo sho!!!

I'm not saying he was a unanimous choice to be in, but i think that his play this year should silence the critics. I think for sure Vokoun deserved to be there, and while i am not a big fan of Marty Turco, his statistics, speak pretty soundly for his selection. Dwayne Roloson's selection is where my beef is though, check this out:

Roloson: 11-11-7 record, 2.00 GAA, .932 S% and 2 shut outs

Aebischer: 21-9-6 record, 2.04 GAA, .928 S% and 3 shut outs

it has been said that roloson was selected to represent the wild since the game is in minnesotta, but still, colorado has 64 pts this season, and i do realize that Aebischer might not be as good playing behind another group of players, but the fact is, he is in colorado and i don't think things would be the same if Suave was in goal. Suave will be good in the future, but i think his development was seriously messed with by the retirement of Roy.

in conclusion yes Roloson, has lower GAA, and a higher Save percentage, but he's played only 29 games. plus the magic number is only a difference of .04 in both categories. i think Aebischer should have been given the spot, that Roloson now holds.

Oiler94 01-24-2004 09:32 PM

Hejduk
Gonchar
Ribeiro

Hockeyfan02 01-24-2004 09:33 PM

Schneider deserves to go more than Ohlund for sure. Hes having a Norris candidate worthy season. Of course I'm not saying Norris-type since theres no way hes winning it over Blake or Pronger.

Yeah, I'm a goofy homer.

Goals for Vancouver 140, Minnesota 110
Vancouver is plus 28 for the year,Minnesota is minus 1

Filip Kuba plays in every tough situation for the wild

Vancouver has a better penalty kill than Minnesota which results in worse plus minus for Kuba.

Minnesota has the 5th worst pp which means less points and worse +/-

All around he is having a better year.

1) Vancouver being better in goals and plus minus should also reflect on the play of the respective #1 defensman to a point, should it not?
2) Ohlund plays PP, Even Strength, PK, and late in games.
3) Special teams and plus minus don't mix so there goes that theory.
4) If Kuba is playing PP and PK and there PP and PK both suck...well...
5) He is having a better year, says you. The score is about everybody to 1 on who is better.

+/- doesn't count on special teams unless the short-handed team scores, so throw that theory out the window...

Bertuzzi shouldn't have been there this year so it was probably a kind of compensation.

kmad 01-24-2004 09:47 PM

1. Ladislav Nagy
2. Mathieu Schneider
3. Zdeno Chara

Bertuzzi is 9th in Western Conference scoring (12 forwards to be named). 'Shouldn't be there' is a bit of a stretch. If Ohlund not going is indeed compensating for this "farce" of a pick, putting Marty Turco ahead of David Aebischer is not doing the job of compensation for the two joke players starting from the same team in Texas.

eXwing 01-24-2004 10:11 PM

1) Mathieu Schneider (over Kuba for sure.)
2) David Aeibischer
3) Milan Hejduk

Yep I agree Turco and Modano shouldn't even be close to being there but Bertuzzi hasn't even been giving effort most of the season and most of his points are via Naslund.

Oiltown16 01-24-2004 10:56 PM

My homer vote is Mike York...without him the Oilers would be no where near a playoff spot

No, most of his points are assists, which are worth as much as goals in the scoring race because you made a nice play to set up a teammate to score. Also, unless you are a Canucks season ticket holder (seen every game) and you know him personally and he has admitted it, how do you know the extent of the effort Bertuzzi has exerted?
