The numbers are pretty one sided, no?

a lot of his early stats came against lesser opposition. although recently he has played good against some of the upper teams. the problem is he runs either hot or cold(shutout one night, 5 GA the next). i think if he was more consistent there might be some grumblings.

That and Mason has been quite good lately. Ellis should get the next start due to the shutout tonight.

Exactely, the coaching staff WANTS Mason to have the #1 job. They are giving him every oppurtunity and more. As long as he plays well he will be the main guy no matter what ellis does.

This team does not have a number one, more like two number two's battling it out for first spot. And if that motivates them each to step up their game, then we can only benefit.

Right now they are playing whoever is hot or has a better record against an opponent (usually Mason here, since well, Ellis hasn't faced alot of teams :P think Mason against Columbus).

That being said, Ellis has had the better year this year. He has been a very pleasant surprise.

His stickhandling is something we have never had before in a goalie and you can tell how his ability in that regard helps the team alot.

ellis is playing some great hockey without a doubt, but for that matter, so is mason..

4-1-1 in his last 6 starts, 8 goals allowed, a 1.25 gaa, and better than a .950 save % in those 6..

while ellis is 4-1-1 in his last 6 starts, with 10 goals allowed, a 1.60 gaa, and around a .930 save percentage as well

so basically they're both pretty much equally hot..

Like the old Roloson/Fernandez tandem in Minny.
