Kypreos: Pittsburgh may trade Malkin

nick kypreos on sportsnet just said that the penguins might trade malkin and have talked to one team in the west.

why? because he says the pens are aware that he'll demand 9 or 10 million on his next contract... they may not want to pay $20M to two players (crosby).

Nich 02-25-2008 05:45 PM

so staal is gone in 2 years too? good to know....

Captain Saku 02-25-2008 05:45 PM

that would be stupid

pfff.

You Make the caproom for Malkin and Crosby.

jmo.

Spawn 02-25-2008 05:46 PM

trade him when his value is at its highest!

:biglaugh:

Newfie John 02-25-2008 05:46 PM

It will probably happen, but not this year.

marklabonte 02-25-2008 05:46 PM

Completely ridiculous if they do. Who would trade away the league leader in points. When is his new contract up?

Walkingthroughforest 02-25-2008 05:46 PM

I call shenanigens

therealdeal 02-25-2008 05:46 PM

There is no way he can earn more than Crosby, he would have to ask for equal or less, probably less.

Ouroboros 02-25-2008 05:47 PM

I thought we'd finally get through a deadline without this blowhard saying anything stupid. Oh well, hope springs eternal...

NFITO 02-25-2008 05:47 PM

I don't believe it.

You don't trade players like Malkin because of salary... he's worth it. And the Pens can afford to pay two guys that much, when they each can carry a line on their own.

if true, I hope that team in the West is Vancouver... but I don't see him going anywhere.

xeric716x 02-25-2008 05:47 PM

Staal would be gone before Malkin

EpochLink 02-25-2008 05:47 PM

I think Malkin can take a team and make it his own, the hell with living in Crosby's shadow right?

1st: Kypreos knows **** about hockey... need a proof ? he is a leafs fan...
2nd : Even if that would be the case... they will only trade him when he will be resign or even wait for another team to make an RFA offer and cash the 5 first round pick...

Seachd 02-25-2008 05:48 PM

Pittsburgh would be pretty stupid to trade him now, but then again, it's Kypreos. If they decide they need to get rid of him, wait until the summer of 2009, and his value should be through the roof.

Birko19 02-25-2008 05:48 PM

Malkin to Detroit for Hudler, Lebda, and a 1st :yo:

Paxton Fettel 02-25-2008 05:48 PM

it's not as stupid as it seems, bit what are the Penguins getting in return? unless they can find a team that will give them 2 good players worth 3 to 4 million each ... but that's impossible. otherwise the Pens will get draft picks ... what for?

TOML 02-25-2008 05:48 PM

-Malkin is locked up for next year.
-Whoops?

-Meanwhile, it looks like the "second contract" has officially been eliminated.
-So instead of old, proven vets being overpaid, they're being run out of the league.
-While young, unproven punks make bazillions for accomplishing squat. (Mike Richards? wtf??)

-Is that what Bettman wanted?

TrustInJarmo* 02-25-2008 05:49 PM

We got a 1 out of 15 chance!!! :sarcasm:

Bring Back Krajicek* 02-25-2008 05:49 PM

Ah, Kypreos. He really knows what he's talking about.
And by "really knows what he's talking about", I mean "offers little to nothing of note to any hockey discussion."

he can and most likely will earn more then crosby unless Malkin takes a discount like crosby did. They are both Max money per year players if they want it.

but I dont see them trading Malkin away. He is too valuable.

The Kingslayer 02-25-2008 05:49 PM

Reason I dont watch Sportsnets.

DaveMatthew 02-25-2008 05:50 PM

Personally in my fantasy world... I'd trade Crosby.

To Chicago: Crosby
To Pittsburgh: Toews, Seabrook, whatever else is needed...

But that's probably because I have an irrational hate for Crosby...

Captain Saku 02-25-2008 05:50 PM

Pittsburgh should trade Staal for Hossa and then can have a one line team with Malkin - Crosby - Hossa

:)

H2O 02-25-2008 05:50 PM

Can you imagine the return though? It would rival the Lindros blockbuster trade.
