Didn't Anaheim get simpson in the waiver draft?

if so, good asset management.

MoS* 02-04-2004 09:42 PM

ducks win; sens gain toughness and experience

leafaholix* 02-04-2004 09:45 PM

Ottawa wins in the short term.

Cerebral 02-04-2004 09:45 PM

So much for the Schastlivy + 2nd rounder for Bondra rumours..

nessie 02-04-2004 09:46 PM

Schastlivy hasn't been seen much this year, is this a possible shake up that could help the Sens click together as a team now?

Howard35 02-04-2004 09:46 PM

ducks definitly win, wow... nice trade

Winston Wolf 02-04-2004 09:47 PM

Thank God! No more Schastlivy proposals! Everybody's a winner!

As a Caps fan, I second that emotion! :)

Wingboy2999 02-04-2004 09:49 PM

Do the Sens really gain anything out of this?

Nice deal for the Sens imo. Simpson is a heart-and-soul competitor. He's not as good overall as he was a few years back - but in the East and in the playoffs, I think the Sens will be happy they made this deal. Plus I think this trade could recharge Simpson's batteries.

And yes, I think it was good asset management by the Ducks but Schastlivy has hardly proven enough to label this deal as a loss for Ottawa.

Jason MacIsaac 02-04-2004 09:58 PM

This just in, Bondra is rumored to be traded to Anaheim for Schastlivy and a 2nd......jk

hardcore_fan 02-04-2004 10:01 PM

I'm not thrilled with this, but oh well.I always like Schastlivy but he needed a change of scenery. If he busts out like Demitra, good for him.As for Simpson, he sounds like a much more reliable Shane Hnightmare so that's a plus.

David A. Rainer 02-04-2004 10:01 PM

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Todd Simpson was a covert King sabotaging the Ducks from within. ;)

DRL 02-04-2004 10:03 PM

i think what this trade and the sydor trade tells us is that defensemen value is very high among GMS.

a top 3 pick for sydor and once considered top prospect for a waiver pickup.

if your interested in a dman be prepared to over pay!

McDonald19 02-04-2004 10:04 PM

Nice trade for both teams. Ducks get something tangible for a UFA to be, rather that just taking a 4th or 5th rounder at deadline. If Schastlivy reaches top 6 forward potential then even better.

Simpson is exactly what Ottawa needs. Good news for them is that he has been playing really well lately too. He will stick up for everybody and will enjoy the wars vs Toronto.

Jason MacIsaac 02-04-2004 10:06 PM

I wonder what Colin White would be worth on the open market?

Hockeyfan02 02-04-2004 10:06 PM

Wow.... move than I expected to get back for Simpson. Good trade by both teams. Sens got what they needed in toughness and Simpson will add it for sure. Ducks didnt fill a need by this deal, but did get good value for a UFA.

V for Voodoo 02-04-2004 10:07 PM

Great, Great Move.
Simpson is a tough SOB who likes to stir things up, and if I am not mistaken, him and Nolan do not like eachother -at all- going back to Nolan's days with the Sharks. (Just an added bonus)

We've just added a player who is much better than Hnidy or Leschychyn, and will add that tough, stay at home presence i was hoping for. Personally, i see Simpson as being very similar to Boughner, except that Simpson is quite a bit bigger at 6'3 compared to Boughner's 6'0.

I won't call it a season saver, because Simpson won't have that big of an impact, but Muckler just killed three birds with one stone. We've added a solid #5-6 dman, which we badly needed IMO, added a heck of alot of toughness, and gotten rid of Schastlivy.
