Congrats the the Habs for top prospects

is it now time to make a move for the playoffs with some of that youth.

marcel hossa
ron hainsey
chris higgins
jozef balej
etc

i think the big club needs size and scoring ( like everyone else)

i wish the club well and hope they can surprise in the first round.

Habs4ever 02-08-2004 11:50 AM

Just because team has good prospect doesn't mean they should start trading future!!

Montreal is not contender so acquiring top player is not the priority, Montreal is looking for physical centremen for pick, plus I'd say Perrault will be dealt to make the trade.

Traitor8 02-08-2004 11:55 AM

I would just wait for the off-season to sign a guy. I don't want to make any trades right now other then Perreault and Kilger....maybe Bouillon.

You also forgot Kostsitsyn on that list
Perezhogin and Plekanec as well.

Mizral 02-08-2004 12:42 PM

Actually, I tend to agree with the original poster. The Habs have some good prospects, but I think the Habs ought to look at improving for the short-term future rather than the long-term future. Why? Theodore is in his mid to late 20's and is approaching the prime of his career. Imagine, say, the Habs move a couple prospects, picks, and chaff, pick up, say, a good defenseman and a 2nd line forward with a bit of size. Then go into the off-season, spend some cash and sign up one more first line forward. The Habs aren't all that far off from being a Cup Contender type of team. With that kind of goaltending, they have the huge luxery of only needing to ice a 'pretty good' team, rather than stack up like the Avs have to do in front of David Aebischer.

if the habs want a center, how about

habs get
robert lang

caps get
ron hainsey
marcel hossa
third round pick

Traitor8 02-08-2004 01:12 PM

Habs won't be contenders for at least 2 more years.

Our 1st liner will be Kostsitsyn, we are waiting for him to arrive.
We won't make any major changes..they only major deal I would do is if it involves Iginla...but that won't happen so forget it.

We are building a team:
Komisarek,Souray,Markov,Hainsey on defense

Goalies:
Theodore

Forwards:
Koivu,Ribeiro,Zednik,Kostsitsyn,Perezhogin,Balej,H iggins,Ward,Bulis

We don't need a trade!

Habs aren't really looking for a top 2 line center, moreso a checking third line center, or big top 2 line wingers. However, if BG and CJ want to make a cup run this year (which I think is still very possible), this is the kind of trade I could see them do.

#44_delivers 02-08-2004 01:14 PM

its going to be tough to give all the habs prospects a shot, there are alote of them, but you have the showcase your prospects talents to get good value for them, which i feel is impossible to do for all of them in montreal so i wouldnt go trading them just yet.
as for theo entering his prime which waz stated earlier in a post, i believe a goaltenders prime is much later then most think around 31-36, so to speed up building a contending team is not really to needed, plus this teams about 2 forwards and a defencmen short of being a contender.

Dan K 02-08-2004 01:16 PM

ok, but...

We don't need a trade!

You forgot Hossa, Ryder, Plekanec, and Garon.
:p
Then there's Urquhart, Lambert, Korneev, and other young guns too.

theres too many to list but i would definatly put plekanec there to, i love that kids game, he'll be very excellent role player forthe habs soon imho.

but as for a player id love to get is cole from carolina, i wonder what he would cost?

MisterUnspoken 02-08-2004 01:30 PM

How about Hainsey for Kovalev Habs fans? NYR could use a future d partner for Tyutin

getting cole would be awesome. but wow, i love the the guys we've got. Just think about what it might look like 3-4 years from now...

Zednik-Koivu-Ryder
Kastitsyn-Ribeiro-Perezhogen
Bulis-Begin-Sundstrom
Hossa-Ward-Balej

Souray-
Komisarek-Hainsey
Markov-Korneev

Theodore
Garon

place for: Plekanec, Higgins, Urquhart, Lambert

I may be a little off as to which side certain D-men play, and there's one slot left empty, but this roster looks killer to me, and if it's what we have in 3-4 years, then it will have atleast 5 years of staying power as it is. We're soo young and soo good. heh.
Bringing in other reasonably young guys as rumours have discussed, guys like Cole or Smyth, could only help. If we go by the roster I listed above, we have lots of guys to trim, like Dackell, Juneau (will retire), Brisebois, Quintal, Rivet, Dagenais, Langdon (I never liked him personally), Perreault, and more.

For once in my life, the both the future AND the present in Montreal look bright on the hockey front.

Kovalev would be a nice addition for the playoffs and is as great team lpayer
the Rangers are rumored to be sellers at the deadline for the first time ever... so I think Hainsey would be a nice addition to the club for the long term and Kovalev wouldnt cost the Habs much, like 1.5 million or so

Traitor8 02-08-2004 02:01 PM

Hell NO!

WTH!

I wouldn't trade Hainsey for a guy who will be UFA.

Hainsey is far too big a price to pay for a rental.

If Montreal's gonna move Hainsey, i would hope that it would be as part of a package for a gritty top 2 line winger.
