Brunnstrom

Dont know if anyone had seen this yet, but here it is for those who have not. I just read it.

Quote:

The Canucks and Brunnstrom's agent JP Barry are hoping to have something finalized within the next week to ten days as the process has heated up over the last few days.

.....

Brunnstrom's NHL agreement will be at least two years and it's believed his compensation will reflect that of a top four draft pick, meaning he'll command at least $2 million per year when he signs.

Is this still going down, despite Vancouver canning GM Dave Nonis earlier tonight?

I think 2 million is a bit of an overpayment for a guy that hasn't proven anything yet. I wonder if the Nonis situation will affect whether he does actually go to the Canucks.

Not sure, but according to Brunnstrom he says he looks forward to playing with the Sedin's and the direction of the team. Will the firing change that? Im not sure, but could mean a very strong prospect is off the list, narrowing that list that much smaller this offseason.

It will indeed affect Brunnstrom's decision.

Nonis was reportedly a pretty big factor in Brunnstrom's decision because he had apparently agreed to let him play with the Sedins and give him top 6 minutes. Now that Nonis is fired, well... it's been said Brunnstrom and his agent are reconsidering. Not sure if he'll sign in Vancouver now.

Anyway, regarding the contract, from what I understand that 2 million would be including all the bonuses. He would have a standard entry-level contract. He would also be given a two-way deal. So for any team, it's not that much of a risk; if he hits all his bonuses, then he's worth his contract; if he flops, then he's still only making the entry-level and can be sent down to the AHL.

Plato 04-14-2008 11:50 PM

Yeah I figured as much but I think that if the Sedin's actually want this guy over here whoever is next in line in Vancouver should make them happy.

the zamboni 04-14-2008 11:56 PM

Why couldn't they have waited until after signing him to fire Nonis? Could come back to bite them.

beastly115 04-15-2008 12:19 AM

ah well. if not in NY i'm glad he's out west.

FutureGM97 04-15-2008 12:21 AM

People who know Swedish hockey, say that this kid is more hype than substance. A nice pickup for sure, but not a phenom like he's made out to be.

I Eat Crow 04-15-2008 10:05 AM

Good, let a Western Conference team overpay for him, that way if he does turn out to be something, he could only hurt us once a year (and God forbid the Stanley Cup Finals). In the stats category in the SEL, he isn't even close to the amount of points Pavel Brendyl has, remember him? I may turn out to be wrong, but this kid was way overhyped from the beginning.

Burlington Bomb 26 04-15-2008 02:59 PM

what swedish team did he play for

To me this guy seems a bit overrated here on HFBoards. I mean I wouldn't mind signing this guy but I don't believe he has the potential to be a future star in this league.

This guy is way overrated everywhere. There is a whole bunch of NHL players that have been on your team and the Islanders, that are ahead of him in scoring and points. He has a supposedly upside since he is young but I expect him to play here for awhile and go right back home.

If I am wrong, so be but he seems like another Brendl,Weindhandl player.

Van is offer him a blanc check, promising him a spot on the top line and giving him a high 1st round pick typ of money.

We can't do it, he isn't good enough.

Have you seen him play in Sweden? What do you think of him?

You've probably got more insight than almost anyone on these boards.

What's your analysis of him?

Overhyped? Talented, but not that talented? Could end up being a gem?

DontStepanMe 05-08-2008 03:39 PM

Brunnstrom just chose to play for Dallas. Has not officially signed a contract though.

There seems to be an echo in here....

007 05-08-2008 06:26 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the NHL, but right now, I'm glad he's with another team.

Trxjw 05-08-2008 07:11 PM

Wow, didn't see that one coming.

Celestial Black 05-08-2008 09:50 PM

Now is the team to get ready to make a trade for Joel Lundqvist.
