"While Jaromir Jagr skated with linemates Bobby Holik and Martin Rucinsky, fellow All-Star representative Mark Messier took the option given both players, and did not practice. . . . "

What a shock. Messier not practicing. Way to set an example, Captain.

And even more worrisome, (at least to me)

"If Tyutin does play for the Rangers at all this season, the coaching staff will be curious to see how he reacts to the upgrade in play. One knock against Tyutin is that his low-key personality is sometimes too much in evidence on the ice.

"Sometimes, you wonder if he's got a pulse," Renney said. "He plays the game with no urgency, which at times can be outstanding for a defenseman, because he can pass the puck and make great decisions. He's got a boiling point that's different than other people.
"

The more and more that I read about his low-key personality, playing w/ no urgency, and his offensive skills, the more and more I become frightened that my original thought of Tyutin are coming true. I fear more and more that for all of his hype, he is another Maladog. I have no idea where people ever got the idea that he is a physical presence. In no report about him, does it mention that. In no report from the 'Pack does it mention his physical game. He looks to be a prototypical Sather draft pick. Offensive minded and does not one thing to help in an area that we need help in. Namely clearing the crease and clearing rebounds. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's just a nagging feeling that I have had about him for a long time now.

Then he becomes Maladog...

who was a pretty decent defenseman for years, especially before a couple injuries. Unfortunately for him his ceiling was pretty high and he couldn't reach that every night, but he was still better than many, even dogging it.

Sorry, I cannot get excited about another Malakhov. I had enough of the current one. And Malakhov's problem was not that he COULD not reach his ceiling, it's that he NEVER TRIED to. And if this is what Tytuin is, it does not help the Rangers at all.

OK, he never tried...

but he was a pretty serviceable defenseman for several years despite that fact. And he put up some decent numbers along the way. Not top pairing numbers, but he was worthy top four defenseman for many years.

I'm all for getting Tyutin into the lineup, but man, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a game or 2 in Hartford first, especially since Bouchard is just hanging around, do nothing now. This team, this opponent, coming off a 4 week injury, not exactly ideal conditions for your NHL debut.

Can anything positive come from Sather's public commentary on Dunham?

I was a little suprised...

to learn that Tyutin was up prior to him even getting some games in with Hartford. But Renney did state that with the All Star Break, it did make sense for him to get some practices in and the Rangers were practicing. The Post makes it look like Tyutin's starting, and Renney makes it sound like he was getting in some practices to get some timing back. While I'm excited to see Tyutin make his debut, I don't think there's a need to rush the kid...imagine, you're 20 years old...you've played, oh, 30 AHL games...just fresh off eight weeks of re-hab for a MCL sprain and you're first game back is against the Devils...and your second game is against the Flyers...and your third game is against the Flyers...is this making any sense?
