Two Degrees of Mike Sillinger

A co-worker and I came up with a theory today.

Every player in the NHL is, at most, two degrees away from Mike Sillinger.

That is, every player in the NHL, at the very least, has played on a team with a player who has played on a team with Mike Sillinger.

I can't think of anyone who hasn't.

Can you?

lol, actually a pretty funny concept.

jax00 04-29-2008 08:56 PM

Hmmm...Todd Marchant?

Poti played with Sillinger on the 2006-07 NY Islanders

Alexander Frolov, LA Kings 2007-2008
Ladislav Nagy, LA Kings 2007-2008

Ladislav Nagy, Phoenix Coyotes 2003-2004
Mike Sillinger, Phoenix Coyotes 2003-2004

Nice try!

Fact is, Sillinger has played for 12 teams over 17 years.

Assuming each team has 25 players (call ups and such), assume a turnover rate of 8 players a year (meaning 17 on average stayed the same), account for playing with maybe 1 person per team twice...

17 times 25 is 425 players, - 8 times 17 makes for 289 players...account for some double counting...

He's played with like 275 players still in the NHL.

There's what, like 750 players in the NHL?

The odds of this happening are very small indeed; maybe only a handful can claim this title.

Frolov played with Jerred Smithson on the Kings in his rookie year.

Smithson played with Sillinger on the Predators.

Sam Gagner

I thought I had one with Kris Letang, but then I discovered Sillinger played on the Flyers with John LeClair.

Sillinger a Flyer? Now that I don't recall.

Then I thought about Tyler Kennedy, but Jeff Taffe ruined that.

Thanks, I'm going to be doing this for hours now.

Spezza plays with Alfredsson, Fisher, Redden and Phillips who played with Sillinger in 2000-01.

Nash played with Sillinger in 2002-03

Pominville played with Miroslav Satan in 03-04 who currently plays with Sillinger now.
(this one is kind of cheap, but it was the first one I found).
EDIT: The Spacek one is better, but a game is a game).
