OT: Avery rushed to hospital

Cardiac arrest...?!

LilWinger11 04-30-2008 11:03 AM

They just mentioned it on NHL Live, but they said they hadn't heard anything about why he was taken to the hospital :dunno:

EDIT: they just said cardiac arrest

TSN is reporting he has a lacerated spleen and is out for the season

GoHabs20 04-30-2008 11:14 AM

ha has a heart? :sarcasm:

serious. I hope he will be ok (as much as he is an arrogant jerk:rant:).

baboinfou 04-30-2008 11:14 AM

It looks bad...
Have been rushed to ER at 3 AM no news since then... wasn't only an intox (would have been best case scenario if he was really breathless....)

go luck Avery

Dan K 04-30-2008 11:14 AM

TSN says lacerated spleen indeed.

Makes you wonder what these guys take to get "up" for playoff games. I'm sure it's way more than just a Tim Horton's coffee...

Anyways... Hope he'll be alright.

anarmandaleb 04-30-2008 11:17 AM

How does one lacerate a spleen?

trauma - a check in that area, a stick to that area...basically a severe blow

LyleOdelein 04-30-2008 11:18 AM

That's unreal. Hopfully he gets well ASAP.

Most likely the result of a check in last night's game, unless he got speared, or butt ended in the gut.

mitchmagic 04-30-2008 11:19 AM

Who let Brodeur near Avery? :sarcasm:

Best of luck to Avery. Hope he makes it out alright!

Mitch

GoHabs20 04-30-2008 11:21 AM

Ask Rondell White or Peter Forsberg...

A hit/impact to the left lower ribs can do it, especially with a broken rib.
The odds are higher if you have an enlarged spleen, with a mono for example.

there'S others causes, but we'll see...

ToysInTheAttic 04-30-2008 11:23 AM

Lacerated spleen explains the cardiac arrest. Would have been a lot of internal bleeding.

thehabsvolta 04-30-2008 11:36 AM

Jesus man! Hope the guy is alright. Go luck Avery.

Sean Avery Lacerated Spleen

I just caught a clip on the news.. ruptured spleen and resulted in cardiac arrest.
I know the guy is a pest but I would take him on my team anyday

Good luck Sean
Heres to a speedy recovery

BeakerEdit: No Cardiac Arrest according to the news reports I've seen. Just a lacerated spleen.

Avery suffered the injury during Game 3 but the Rangers are unsure of exactly when it occurred. The winger's pain got continuously worse during the game and became more of an issue when play concluded. Team doctor, Dr. Andrew Feldman, suspected Avery had suffered an injury to his spleen and the pair were driven to hospital. Avery entered the hospital under his own power.

Habs8517 04-30-2008 11:48 AM
