From RDS

Again, they said that he ''could'' be out 6 weeks, I don't know how they came to that conclusion but let's hope it's not that long 'cause it certainly could be a turning point. Let the ''trade for Gauthier'' thread restart....

It never was only a couple of games, it was for at least the next 2 games before they would re-evaluate him once the team came home on Sunday.

As for the 6 weeks that RDS is talking about..it's nothing official. Just what they ''learned'' which means they probably went back and looked at how much time players with similar injuries missed.

Quagmier 02-11-2004 05:27 PM

This injury, should it actually be a 6 weeker, will change many, many things:

Bad
- We're now fighting for the playoffs, rather than pushing for a higher seed
- We've lost our main defensive and physical threat, bad for theo, koivu, ribs
- Adding another major injury to Souray's extensive list is going to catch up to him eventually, we might not see the same Souray again

Good (For the optimist in all of us)
-Prevents Gainey from making any future sacrificing deals, as we are not in that position
- Gives more minutes (Desperately needed) to Markov to allow him to mature the way Sheldon has
-Makes Komisarek more valuable, which is always a good thing
- Tests the character of this team... if they do great things, everyone is gonna feel better about their position

Its a shame that we always seem to loose our players in the midst of breakout seasons (Koivu, Ribeiro last year, although that's a bit of a stretch, now Souray)... I just hope its not as serious as projected

it was on tsn.ca where they reported it as at least a week where souray will return to montreal on friday to be re-evaluated.

Yup.. NHL on the fly just said one week. Sprained knee.

Habber 02-12-2004 07:35 AM

Jack Todd article in the Gazette today talks about Souray. Says they don't know what's wrong with it yet, but said he felt it burn when it happenned, which is usually a sign of a tear.

I have a feeling this "out for a week" story is just to get the media off his back. You would think that even a sprain would keep him out 2-3 weeks, and if it is torn he'll be out for the rest of the regular season and possibly the playoffs.

zurg999 02-12-2004 08:16 AM

Don't worry so much guys, we have more than enough depth on D to carry us into 7th spot, which is realistically where we will end up anyway. Interesting thing is we could be playing any of the 5 teams ahead of us in the conference (excepting TB) in the 1st round.

And it will be nice to have Souray well rested for the playoffs.
:rolly:

Souray out up to 6 weeks

It looks like it will be later rather than sooner...TSN is reporting "complications" and that he will be out for up to 6 weeks...maybe longer...he is to be re-evaluated by team doctors tomorrow. Ouch!!!!

Playr050 02-12-2004 02:25 PM

He hasn't even had an MRI yet. Must be a slow news day for the folks at TSN.

leafaholix* 02-12-2004 02:30 PM

Wow, if it's true... then we're going to see a lot of "if he didn't get injured" posts in the McCabe vs. Souray thread.

It's not for this, I just think that your comment needs a nomination to the most impertinent and useless comment of the year.

Hmmmm........a leaf fan making a comment about people whinning about injuries.

leafaholix* 02-12-2004 02:55 PM

No, I was commenting on excuses.

The Leafs haven't had any excuses while being without a bunch of key players.

Hopefully, none of that behaviour will make its way onto your board. I've asked them to behave, but there are several willful souls on the B's board.

To the Habs moderators, if they troll on this board after they've already been warned not to, by all means, deal with them appropriately.

Hope Souray heals well and soon.
