NBA takes big first step to fix their broken league - Fines for Diving

Great move but it remains to be seen how big of fines they are going to have and how big of cohones the NBA has to enforce it. Look out San Antonio, you gotta come up with a new game plan now.

I'm skeptical.

kingsholygrail 05-29-2008 02:08 PM

Well, clear cases of flopping. I don't think it's going to cover embellishment or selling calls so much.

Dude it's been really bad in this year's playoffs.

just another way for them to enforce a rule unevenly... the teams will pay the fines for the players anyway, unless it is tech called in-game a fine will do nothing IMO.

:laugh::laugh:
If you think the Spurs won 4 championships by diving, you're dumber than I thought.:laugh:

You obviously didn't watch the Suns/Spurs series this year.

I agree with this.

All this does is deflect attention from the root problem: horrific officiating. The NBA has terrible officials and a terrible problem with lack of replay. NBA officials miss or make incorrect calls significantly more than the other leagues and it's because they keep these old guys who can't keep up around instead of replacing them.

Fines will do nothing to deter floppers as long as it's still getting the job done. The NHL said they would fine divers and make a public list, blah, blah, blah... We know that hasn't changed anything.

Calling straight technicals is probably out of the question, but I'd like to see maybe 1 warning per team or player (like delay of game) before they start handing out technicals.

or last year. It is really shameful to watch them play. However to say they won 4 titles on the strength of shameless diving is stretching it too far. In 99, 03 and 05 they did not win the championship by diving. They did it with strong inside play and clutch shooting. It seems that ever since they got knocked out by the Mavs in 06 that they decided to start flopping around the court.

Exactly...This is letting the officials off the hook for calling blatant flops as fouls. I do not even want to single any player/team out because they all do it to an extent.

Take the big Barry/Fisher collision the other night...The same analysts who decry flops were saying that Barry did not "sell" the foul enough. They said he should have hit the deck once Fisher came down on him!!!

The refs are at the root of this problem...they fall for the flops which in turn perpetuates flopping more. Fix the refs and the flops will stop. I gurantee you the "known" floppers will change their ways once they cost their team a few buckets cuz they hit the ground flopping instead of playing real D.

I haven't denied how bad it's been, just providing clarification so people don't think there's going to be a fine every little embellishment as they made it clear that it would be the obvious flops.

There is when the NBA is getting more and more flack for being a lazy league. If they keep this up, they're going to lose the title of 'the league with the best players on the planet'.

I dunno, I think they lost that title with Ron Artest incident.

I thought the NBA was supposed to be cracking down hard on flopping

But star players always get away with it

Here, Chris Fall dodnt get fined for this one

And LOL at Griffin acting as if he wants to go toe to toe with Captain Jax

Rafa Nadal 11-15-2012 01:41 PM

The NBA said it's okay to do it against a fellow flopper. And LOL @ the OP.
