NBA takes big first step to fix their broken league - Fines for Diving
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3416579
Great move but it remains to be seen how big of fines they are going to have and how big of cohones the NBA has to enforce it. Look out San Antonio, you gotta come up with a new game plan now. |
I'm skeptical.

Well, clear cases of flopping. I don't think it's going to cover embellishment or selling calls so much.

just another way for them to enforce a rule unevenly... the teams will pay the fines for the players anyway, unless it is tech called in-game a fine will do nothing IMO.

If you think the Spurs won 4 championships by diving, you're dumber than I thought.:laugh: |

All this does is deflect attention from the root problem: horrific officiating. The NBA has terrible officials and a terrible problem with lack of replay. NBA officials miss or make incorrect calls significantly more than the other leagues and it's because they keep these old guys who can't keep up around instead of replacing them. |
Fines will do nothing to deter floppers as long as it's still getting the job done. The NHL said they would fine divers and make a public list, blah, blah, blah... We know that hasn't changed anything.
Calling straight technicals is probably out of the question, but I'd like to see maybe 1 warning per team or player (like delay of game) before they start handing out technicals. |

Exactly...This is letting the officials off the hook for calling blatant flops as fouls. I do not even want to single any player/team out because they all do it to an extent. Take the big Barry/Fisher collision the other night...The same analysts who decry flops were saying that Barry did not "sell" the foul enough. They said he should have hit the deck once Fisher came down on him!!! The refs are at the root of this problem...they fall for the flops which in turn perpetuates flopping more. Fix the refs and the flops will stop. I gurantee you the "known" floppers will change their ways once they cost their team a few buckets cuz they hit the ground flopping instead of playing real D. |

I thought the NBA was supposed to be cracking down hard on flopping
But star players always get away with it Here, Chris Fall dodnt get fined for this one And LOL at Griffin acting as if he wants to go toe to toe with Captain Jax http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=VulnRcE12f0 |
The NBA said it's okay to do it against a fellow flopper. And LOL @ the OP.
