Daniel Carcillo

what would it take to get this kid?? if avery bolts we need an agitator and i see cooke going to the west for some reason maybe dallas or sharks.

Prucha Dawes and Sauer

for Carcillo and Nick Boynton

I know things are slow but we really don't need a new thread for every player that we would like to see on the Rangers.

With that being said I don't think Phoenix touches this as Carcillo is looking to be a really nice pest who can score a bit and Boynton isn't to bad and is only a 3 million cap hit if I remember correctly.

boynton for prucha and hollweg?? remember boynton was on waivers so his value is low.

I can almost guarantee that there isn't a single team in the league that would have the least bit interest in Hollweg. He's completely ineffective as an a "tough guy", constantly takes stupid penalties and has no hockey skill of any sort. That being said I think Phoenix would have much more use for Boynton that they would for Prucha. Boynton also comes off the books after the upcoming season.

I would completely agree with you, and then I see teams trading for Cam Janssen, trading a 5th rounder for Wade Belak, etc. For some reason GM's feel that players that suck might become good after multiple attempts that failed (see Bochenski, Krog, etc.) Hollweg would certainly be picked up by some team, however that doesn't make it a good move at all.

In response to the players you listed Janssen is actually not that bad of a fighter and Belak isn't scared to drop the gloves himself and provides enough on the ice to keep playing. Bochenski is still young and tore up the AHL before being traded to Boston where he played very well scoring a good amount of goals towards the end of the season. He did however fall out of favor with the coaching staff it seems though and later went to Anaheim and Nashville. Nevertheless he has some potential and has shown he is capable of performing at the NHL level. Hollweg however is nothing but a detriment to whatever club he is on.

Regardless of whether or not we can get anything for Hollweg this offseason, I think it's time to cut ties with him. Hopefully he can get a job with some team out west and I wouldn't wish anything bad on him, but it's time for him to go.

On the original topic, I think we ought to keep a close eye on Cooke assuming we haven't locked up Aves before July 1st. I am fairly confident we will sign Sean though (the FiFi awards are only in NY, after all) and if not I'd rather sign Cooke or train Callahan to perform a similar function rather than trading our few trade assets on a penalty machine.
