Deboers will be his assistant. could be announced tomorrow.

I actually believe you. I was telling my dad yesterday that he might have gotten the royal treatment in barbados so melnyk could try and convince him to take the assistant coaching role.

i thought it would be for hartley, but you know more than i do.

and prefix is one word. You just read it while posting this thread. Seriously.

If this is true - awesome.

Nice moves by Murray.

Dionysus 06-12-2008 03:55 PM

I like.

The Fuhr* 06-12-2008 03:57 PM

Two best coaches in the CHL combining in Ottawa in what will be a pretty young team. Looks solid.

I would have prefered someone who has won something (I want to get Alfie his cup)

But if we are rebuilding this is the way to go.

tony d 06-12-2008 04:01 PM

If true, this is a really good hire for the Senators.

Jag68Sid87 06-12-2008 04:10 PM

An older coach doesn't necessarily mean a team is "going for the Cup", and a younger coach doesn't necessarily mean the team is "rebuilding".

we have an entire thread arguing this. Fuhr knows.

discostu 06-12-2008 04:16 PM

I'm definitely planning to wait-and-see on this one, but, the idea of DeBoer as an assistant coach is pretty incredible. I'd love for that to happen.

But, wait and see.

Safir* 06-12-2008 04:19 PM

Intriguing move by Murray, if true.

The Mars Volchenkov 06-12-2008 04:20 PM

Anything but Hartley is okay with me. Getting both of these guys would be pretty incredible.

JerseyMike 06-12-2008 04:23 PM

So it's pretty much what Steve Ludzik said on The Spin about 2 weeks ago.

Reaper45 06-12-2008 04:31 PM

Hartsburg sucked in his last stint in the NHL, maybe he'll be better this time around.

TheHMan 06-12-2008 04:32 PM

Looks like Murray really wanted to go out of his way to redeem himself after putting in Paddock last year. Considering we're curbing most of our older 3rd and 4th liners and injecting youth into the lineup, it seems like the right choice for the club. I'm not too hot on Hartsburg, but if DeBoer is indeed coming in as an assistant then I'd consider this a very good move.

btn 06-12-2008 04:32 PM

How many coaches make the jump from Juniors to NHL? I suspect Deboer figured that his lack of NHL coaching experience was too much to overcome in the interview process.

IdiotsPickedMyName* 06-12-2008 04:42 PM

Congrats to Eklund for having the balls to post this here, you're going to take a serious beating to your credibility if you're wrong again.

I don't really like a lot of you're stuff, but good on you if you stick around if right or to explain why, if you're wrong.

As for the actual topic that would be a sweet coaching duo. :yo:

didn't brent sutter just do that this year

Poignant Discussion 06-12-2008 05:00 PM

DeBoer is not coming to Ottawa to be an assistant. He said that himself

DeBoar flew to Barbados to speak with Melnyk. And we all know money talks.

SoulPatch 06-12-2008 05:42 PM

I likey.

I'm pretty much against everything Hartley, and wanted Hartsburg or Burns. Adding DeBoers as an assistant is just gravy.

We'll finally have people who know what they're doing on the coaching staff, Last year was such a disaster, it made me long for Jacques Martin. I'm expecting a huge improvement to Spezza's game.

Kamina 06-12-2008 06:09 PM

Getting both of these guys would be extremely awesome.

danishh 06-12-2008 06:14 PM

just thinking about this, if i've got the chronology right, reports went:

Its Hartsburg!

no, Its Hartley!

wait a second, deBoer is in Barbados, Its DeBoer!

wrong again, its actually Hartsburg.

been a fun two weeks.
