Mike Green looking for an offer sheet: Whats he worth to NYR

Considering he scored how many gwg against NYR last year? :)

Everytime I watched the Caps last year he was a standout.

Reports continue to surface that he will not re-sign before July 1st and his agent "expecting" offer sheets.

Is Sather in on this?

Considering how terrible we are at drafting in the early rounds, I'd gladly give up a couple early picks for him.

I dont really see this happening. You would have to give up too much. Why dont the Caps take him to arbitration?

Cherepanisimov 06-15-2008 01:53 PM

the caps said they would match any offer

FutureGM97 06-15-2008 01:53 PM

Ryan Suter only got 3.5 million with his new contract, maybe Green is just looking for too much but i would rather keep the picks considering next year is going to be a very good draft as well.

NYR Viper 06-15-2008 01:54 PM

i would give no more than the 1st, 2nd, 3rd

I'd rather trade the picks simply because you know you would be getting a #1 defenseman for the next 5 years if you signed Green. You don't know if anything will come from the draft picks..

I'd bet almost anything Green is taken to arbitration to avoid a lurking offer sheet.....

Does not matter, next years draft is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts in YEARS.

You watch at the lack of activity in next years trade deadline because no one will be willing to give up their first or even 2nd round picks.

I have a feeling Green will fade after last year.

And to think, 2003 worked out so well for us. :sarcasm:

Sorry I couldn't resist, but I maintain that Green is at least worth the 1-2-3 comp. Anything more and I'd probably keep the picks.

Really? Whys that?

I wish we had a young D man who whos game was coming together like this kid.

3rd year he had 56 pts and was a +6 on on the Caps blueline.

i agree, i like him, however i would rather throw an offer sheet at JBo or Weber....although they could do a lot worse then Green

Burlington Bomb 26 06-15-2008 03:25 PM

Man imagine our D-Corp

Staal-Green
Sanguinetti-Del Zotto
Tyutin-Girardi

That would be 10x better than the Colorado one in 2000

We have no idea how good Sanguinetti or Del Zotto are going to be...

NYR Viper 06-15-2008 03:35 PM

like i said, with sanguinetti coming up soon, i would rather have someone like JBo who can qb the pp and play top minutes or weber who hits hard and has a cannon of a shot, although, green is a very good player....if the rangers could sign green and trade sanguinetti for someone like kovalchuk or JBo then it woul dbe worth it....but that scenario is just craziness

You'd lose that bet, as (unfortunately I suppose) Green's not yet eligible for arbitration.

Not to put a wrench in your discussion here, but you could probably expect the Caps to match any offer up to the 5.5mil or so, I imagine. It may even take 6 to get him, but regardless it'll cost more than a 1,2,3.

I didn't even realize that....

Eitherway the Caps wouldnt' let him go right? I'm all for signing Restricted Free Agents Green is not worth 4 first round picks..

If a team came in with a 6+ offer the Caps would have trouble matching it, I think, considering they need to keep Huet as well (and hopefully Fedorov, and Laich and Morrisonn as well although those two will be cheaper). A GM could take a big gamble and throw Phaneuf/Lidstrom money at Green, and there's little chance the Caps could match it. But hopefully that's not so likely.

Same here. That compensation is for RFA signed under 4M right?

His agent is kinda lame to wait for offer sheets to negociate, im not sure the Caps like this.

Celestial Black 06-15-2008 04:03 PM

Jbo > Weber > Green as far as my concern. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him on the team, but more so that these guys grab me more than he does. However, if it can get done without too much money or picks involved then welcome Green to the Rangers. Just got to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

Turambar 06-15-2008 04:16 PM

What's the source on this, that he's "looking for an offer sheet" ?

The Caps' beat writer is saying that that's what he's hearing. You won't hear anything official though, GMGM keeps things airtight in the organization.

A link to his blog (one of the updates near the bottom has some of his stuff about Green, as well as some of his other posts):

Why does he want to leave, simply because the Caps won't give him enough money?
